NPL watch

Just the 2 matches survived Eunice - Leek v GNE & Widnes v Cables
Most of the Prem off as well

Wins for Leek & Widnes.
And a point for Hyde

Glossop pushed Leek very close, if it hadn"t of been for an absolute clanger from the Glossop No.1 they would have got a point or even three.

City of Liverpool have scored 38, conceded 38 & have 38 points!

3 teams on 35 points at the top now, with Leek only 3 behind.

Meanwhile, Nantwich are just ahead of Witton in the battle to be relegated.
Witton came from 2 down to win at Grantham & Nantwich were 2 up at South Shields before going down 4-2

Ashton beat top of the table South Shields on Tuesday, and Nantwich beat Witton.
Hyde drop in to the PPG relegation spot now

Hyde drop in to the PPG relegation spot now
The smart money is on Hyde finishing second bottom and Witton finishing 3rd bottom and escaping relegation by 0.000000000001 points

Hyde have got Atherton away, Lancaster away and then Witton at home. They need to beat Witton and pick up poiints from the other two games otherwise they are done.

Witton have 3 games in hand on Hyde but are 3 points behind with a worse goal difference. 4 points from 9 needed to overtake Hyde.
Witton have Buxton twice, Colls, Whitby, Stafford & Hyde to face this month

Even with games in hand, Witton look in serious trouble. Not helped by injuries and a shocking goal difference, while that narrow defeat to Nantwich will be a big psychological blow. High flying Buxton (2nd) and Whitby Town (6th) next up for them too.

Positive for us of course that there's the real possibility of a derby game that should bring a decent crowd to Townfield next season.

They have to play Buxton twice in the next 5 games!

Relegation to the Mickey Mouse Sunday League with 1874 might actually be a financial benefit to Witton and reduce their expenses and their financial dependence on Jim's Team.

Yes Tony. Although the fans won`t see it this way, by dropping down a league they will be a top 4 side in our division, winning more games which of course any football fan wants to see and may actually increase crowds with lower running costs. Many sides have benefited longer term by dropping down a league for a year or two. Probably best they stay where they are! :D

Certainly not as many trips to the East and North-East, so that will help travel expenditure. In terms of playing budget though, I think Witton will be struggling to compete with a number of clubs, so an immediate return to the Premier Division could prove problematic. Possibly better results on a regular basis might help hold on to gate numbers however.

Prescot Cables and Frickley presently avoiding and play-off against a Step 5 runner up.

Prescot leap frog Colne to lift themselves out of the PPG slot.

And above us wins for Nantwich, Hyde, Ashton & Grantham leave Witton in huge trouble.

Update courtesy of the NWCFL Facebook page this week:
NWCFL third bottom club still out of the play-off debacle, but obviously things can change. My take is that a PPG above 1.0 should see safety, though this is obviously not th3 preferred ideal.
Just for the record ‘74 are currently 1.137

Quite a few tough games left before the season ends and I can really only see us getting points from Market Drayton and maybe Kendal ?
how many points do we all think we will need to stay up, rather than worrying about the maths

We’ll play ( edited - thanks Edge ?) thirty eight games this season. I’d wager 40-41 to be one hundred percent certain, but 37 or 38 should suffice ??‍♂️
What do you think folks?

As I said in a previous post, two wins against Market Drayton and Kendal would take us to 39.

I reckon that would probably be enough.
