NPL watch 22/23

Widnes moved out of the bottom 4 - for the first time this season? - after a comfortable win over CoL last night.

Col 3 Worky 0 - didn't see that coming.

Colne conceded twice in the 90th minute to lose to Newcastle.
Hanley managed a second home win to jump out of the bottom 4 & Rammy go down to an 89th minute winner to leave them rooted to the bottom.

Phil Brown has left Colne. With seven games left it seems like a desperate last throw of the dice? Hasn’t the deadline for player signings past, if so there is not much any new Manager can do short term apart from work with what they’ve got?

I wonder if there is any currently employed West or East Lancs based Manager/coach who might consider the role?

Apparently the former lead vocalist of the Jam has pitched in to help Colne out temporarily 🤷‍♂️👀

Congratulation to Macc who were crowned champions today.
Although if they were any good they'd have won it months ago.

And commiserations to Ramsbottom who have been relegated.

GNE remained 2nd bottom despite winning today.
And the battle for the relegation play-off spots is getting tight. 5 teams within 2 points of each other.

We’ll get dragged into a bottom four scrap if we don’t improve and fast. Now we’re only five points clear after teams around us won.

A win against relegated Rammy on Tuesday is a must.

A win would certainly help ease any growing tensions I agree.

Thanks @Ben

If I understand that then one step 4 is resigning & therefore one of the eight 17th placed clubs will be safe from the play-offs.
And as things stands that is Widnes

Nantwich & Stalybridge are both in the NPL Prem relegation spots.

Markse host Nantwich on Saturday & then Stalybridge visit them next week.

Skem are looking to raise £50,000 to bring Burscough's ground up to standard & also do some work in Skem.

The final fixtures next week...

Workington v Colne
Bootle v Glossop

A draw saves GNE if Colne lose otherwise, they need to win & hope Colne draw at best

Trafford v Linnets
Clitheroe v Kidsgrove
Leek v Skem

As it stands Leek will host Clitheroe & Linnets head to Cumbria

Markse v Nantwich postponed today.
Three games in 6 days unless there's an extension to the season. Two of those games against their relegation rivals.
Could be interesting.

With play offs looming large it seems an extension is unlikely.
Widnes and Lincoln currently vie for that exemption spot, according to my statistician in the room 😜

Markse play Bridge at home tonight. If they win Bridge will be joining us in the Western Divide next season.

Markse then play Nantwich at home on Thursday. If they win then ‘The Dabbers’ will be following them.

Markse’s last game is away at next to bottom Liversedge whilst Bridge host Colls and Nantwich play play-off chasing Radcliffe at the Weaver Stadium.

Going to be squeaky bum time!

Potentially a couple more bigger games to look forward to perhaps.
