“Sometimes expertise costs.”

Couldn’t agree with you more.

So I take it that you will be supporting an above inflation pay increase for our expert nurses and doctors in the NHS?
Affordable:

£37bn on failed test&trace, £??? bn on crony contracts for dodgy PPE, £2.6m for a media room, £9.6m for unused Nightingale "hospitals", £340K hush money re Patel bullying, £250K to defend Hancock's law breaking, £400k to paint a plane, £20M to carry out a ‘feasibility study’ into another Johnson vanity project

Unaffordable: Above inflation Pay rise for NHS

What about the millions who have lost their jobs because they were forced to stay home to “protect the NHS”?

What about the millions receiving pay cuts and pay freezes because their companies are in the brink because they were forced to close to “protect the NHS”?

What about those forced out of work due to ailments that have been ignored by the NHS for the last year?

I wouldn't award any pay increases to any public servants or anyone else until all this is over and we can see what the state of play is.

I think it's beyond belief that we are even talking about it. The conversation has been turned into one where by its about how much we value our nurses and front line NHS staff and whether they "deserve" a pay rise. Its not about that at all. When soldiers get killed, the rest don't get pay rises on the back of it - but that doesn't mean we don't value their sacrifice ! We have thousands of people on short wages, short time, unemployment is going to burst its banks, companies going bust, tax revenues on the floor and no sign of them coming back up, campaigns about greater use of food banks and child poverty, extra measures to support benefits and people affected by lockdown - and yet public servants, who have had all their wages and benefits paid in full throughout the pandemic, want to talk about pay rises. You couldn't make it up !

I suspect that having made an offer and passed it over to the Review body, there will be a higher offer to place the NHS and then it will kick off over police, firefighters, teachers et al. Hence why I wouldn't have even gone down this road in the first place

Still peddling the nonsense about £37 billion for test and trace .................

That will be a ‘No’ then! ?

So is the public accounts committee wrong and it’s members telling lies?
And the BMJ?

They aren’t all like Johnson you know (i.e. an inveterate liar)

What about the millions who have lost their jobs because they were forced to stay home to “protect the NHS”?”

What? Like me you mean?

I was only too happy to do this (as were millions more - including you no doubt). You would seem to suggest that we collectively ought to have ignored Government advice just to prevent the economy from tanking ?

An interesting article about Test and Trace:

Very interesting Andy. Equally interesting where they are based.

“The team is based in our London office (57 Tufton Street, London SW1P 3QL)....”

?

Found a new emoji have you James? ?

And I’m not getting back in to that Lockdown debate again with you because we’ll never agree on that, and that’s fine.

Nah. Been using it for months.?

No comment about where Capx are based? Odd coincidence though don’t you think.

It’s just an interesting article, James. It’s good to read a variety of viewpoints.

erm well I wouldn't let Meg Hillier (or odious Anneliese) manage my pocket money personally. She never let facts get in the way of a good story, or her political views. Chair people of Parliamentary committees need to be impartial and MH is anything but !

Test and trace has become hugely politicised and most MPs don't even understand the issues or real costs. That's demonstrated every time they call for test and trace to be fixed. Lets start with millions of illegal immigrants who don't want to be contacted, can't isolate because they can't claim benefits. can't go to hospital in case they get bubbled as illegals and are not registered with any address. That's about 3 million people (?). Oh but you can't say that because its racist sorry !! Lets start with the cost of 1.5 million tests per day and all the labs that need to examine the results and gnome sequencing. Lets start with the vast network of tracking all those tests or the production teams that make them and will need to for the next 20 years

If we are going to have a serious debate, lets start with the real truth - and the 37 billion number is just a joke !! Lets stop the hate and nonsense and just agree that Labour needs to stop looking for a pandemic cause and look for another John Smith who can see realism and adopt a sensible approach

and when you've finished sequencing the gnomes you presumably want to deport them?

Ah Knutsfordian. Typical odious right wing starting point. Blame immigrants first.

Gypsies, Romany, Jews, Communists.

The Nazis and Facists targeted those groups first.

Look what happened then.

Do we not want to learn from history??

You’ve finally shown your true colours. Something I’ve suspected for some time

Hmmmm.

And Boris, Rishi et al have done so well with our economy haven’t they? Our GDP has fallen to far lower levels than any comparative countries.

Just watching Newsnight - trade to the EU down by 40%. Imports similarly hit (which will impact prices of goods on the shelves).

HM Government asked to provide a representative to appear but they refused.

Clearly they have a great deal to hide.
