linnets away

Last season we were a distance behind Nelson & Formby, this season we're well ahead of Nelson, but adrift of the top 2.
Although we've more than matched Gossop & Linnets in the league games

It's not a bad for a 2 year old club.

With a couple of additions we should be able to mount a realistic title challenge next season.

Ignoring todays reds, discipline has been a problem - maybe today our disciplinary record swayed the officials? - and an inability to kill teams off has hurt us at times as well.
Personally I think at times we need to be more positive going forward and be more ruthless.

Regarding today - the ref let a lot of what looked like fouls go. I thought he was just letting the game flow, but perhaps he was clueless? If there's video evidence supporting Wardy then can we appeal?

Mike Brandon man of the match for me, but at times he's very isolated up top. I'd like to see a bit more pace up front & I really don't understand why either Beadle or Connor weren't used.

needed some width on the right hand side to open them up, In the air runcorns defenders coped easily but on the floor a different thing. Need some pace out wide.

Linnetts no better than us in all departments, its a shame the officials ruined the end

Wardy did stand on their player but my memory is that is because he went straight up in the air from the dreadful tackle from behind (single footed I thought) and just landed on him. If he should have got the red card so should their no 7. As for Chappell he said he had been sent off , according to the ref, for running 30 yards and punching someone. The only thing I saw him do (and I was fairly close) was try to keep the no 17 away from everyone when he was getting carried away. I did not think the ref had a terribly good game missing too many niggles (arm across Brandon, pushes from their no 5, an ankle tap or two from Ward) but the player's attitude feigning injury does not help. (Incidentally, some Linnets fans did not rate his as he was giving all decisions in the first half to us and told me I was watching a different game to them when I disagreed) Much easier when I reffed (rugby)! My apologies to all and sundry within about 50 yards of me as my language was disgraceful after the sending offs.

I think there were more than a few expletives today Richard - a fair share from me!

Regarding performances, I thought Stuey Wellstead matched MvB for work rate. I couldn't really fault the performance today. More than matched Linnets. They just happened to score 3 whilst we could only muster 2. 1874 were the better footballing side but it's goals that win it.

From a linnets point of view, from where I was stood ( behind the goal, clubhouse end) "the challenge" looked 2 footed and he jumped into the tackle which is dangerous play. The only saving grace was that he did seem to take the ball.
I would have awarded 1874 the foul and given a yellow for dangerous play as he looked to take only the ball but I said to the people next to me, if you get any of the player in that type of challenge its a red all day long (I would have been screaming for a red though had the same happened to our player).
I can't say that I could see much of what happened next though. It looked like the 1874 player that had been tackled might have reacted on the floor and then Matt Atherton has jumped in (and rightfully shown red if so).
Haven't got a clue why the second 74 player walked, looking forward to seeing the recording myself.
I thought we were better first half, you were better second. A draw was probably a fair result and a loss would have been hard for either team to take.
Forgetting the controversy though, it was a good game and well worth a fiver. Its good to see 2 fan owned clubs putting on a good show with a bumper crowd. You have to take heart that this is your first season in this league and you can easily match the best teams in it.
I really do like the club you guys have and wish you every success in the future (of which I'm sure there will be many). I'm looking forward to when we next meet. Hope you have a good end to the season and I hope you all give your players/officials of the club the credit that they deserve for the hard work and effort that has clearly gone into this season.

Chappers has confirmed that the liner said to him that he and number 15 were having a so called fight and that punches were thrown which we all know never happened absolute scandal!

Having said all this I hope you don't you go up would love to play you again twice next season. But good luck to you for the rest of the season.

If that's how Linnets play football to win they don't deserve to go up.......... DISGRACEFUL.

The same can be said about our disciplinary record, although we'll know more when the video comes out.

The same can also be said about my language, I don't think I've ever sworn so much in my life as I did yesterday due to the absolutely un*******believable decisions by the Ref and Liner, if I hadn't have been there I'd never have believed it.

That's two matches we've played against Runcorn clubs that have ended with the officials taking the limelight.

One thing that we 74 s can look forward to is the fact that we hopefully have seen the last of the Linnets for a while and further not to witness the "gobbing" of White and his "bullying" antics of match officials from the start of each match !!. Why no "subs" on when we needed them is I cannot understand, but "Streety" must have his reason for not doing so, leave that to him !!.

On a slightly different issue than the result yesterday I wondered what others thought of Runcorns ground particularly given they are a fan based club who started, like ourselves, with nothing.
Although I applaud and would not try and belittle the effort that many Linnets supporters will have made along with the considerable hard work and time they will have committed to the project I thought the ground looked a little bland. A couple of people near me said they thought it looked like it had been made from a 'Mechano' set and the fencing gave it the impression of a prison teams ground. I realise that it is all about money but would hope that when the day comes that we try and add a little 'character' to our ground if we can.
Even though we all know there needs to be some work on the BS pitch I would take its old fashioned non league ground style any day over the Millbank.

I admire what linnets have achieved at the Milbank, but it is a lifeless ground, impossible to get a proper atmosphere going. The BS has a low roof, it creates more of an atmosphere and has more character.

Hi guys. In the process of editing - I had to have a look at the incident first though and my reaction is the same as yesterday. Even when slowed down the Linnets player went in to the back of Wardy two footed, he did take the ball but then his momentum carried him through and took the player out - could have been a lot worse as we are talking possible ankle ligament damage or worse to one of our best players. His foot then went underneath Wardys and as Matt tried to regain his balance, pressure was applied to the Linnets foot. At no time was there a STAMP. The lad knew he was wrong as he then rolled around as if he had broken his leg - though he did get up with no assistance from their physio and played on no problem. As with Mossip above, my view a booking for the Linnets player, our free kick and we play on with 11 a side.
That's my view.

I personally really liked Linnets ground and although I've only been to a few away games this season it was by far my favourite ground so far
