JRFC Aftermath

Match report of the Sheffield win posted within hours; loss to Loughborough? Not even a mention. Happens every time. Not a big issue but sums up the mentality.
To be fair, that has to be a difficult report to write. I'd have expected the result to have been a hard fought out single goal win ..... at worst.

Fond memories of working with Pete Wilson to make sure some kind of match report was there on the same day. Back up the M1 M40 or M62 late at night and straight on to the computer! I don't think we ever failed in all the years we did it.
Just so you lucky people could wake up to it!!
Seems a long time ago now.

Might as well bite first; while I think the club thoroughly deserves to be in the position it's in with relegation today, part of me does think back to all those great (and not do great) memories at the Drill Field during the 80s and 90s. I hate what the club became.

... and 60s and 70s ...

But I will confess today leaves me rather cold. The club as we knew it died long long ago.

NVFC were put to the sword today. It was 5 and could have been 10. By the end the greens were chasing shadows. Were thoroughly down -hearted and well beaten by an Albion team that was rotated through the game with players being rested and substituted early. However, It was nothing less than many green and whites expected. Now its over ! Getting to the end of this season will be seen as quite an achievement as well as a mighty relief. Their opportunity is now rebuild their club and live to fight another day. The Connett and Rushe eras are history. The club may be going to its lowest ever position in the leagues, but to be fair, those stalwarts who support NVFC deserve a crack at saving the club and Barnton just might be the launch pad for a club with no illusions about the long slog ahead. I hope that they enjoy their football wherever it takes them.

It was reassuring to see our gate today was only 50 less than Witton given the respective league positions and differing status.
However, it doesn't hide the massive job both Witton and 1874 have in attracting fans. Two derby games, dry day, bank holiday Monday and a combined gate of 800.
No matter how you look at it you can't help thinking that NWCL / NPL is the level both clubs will be living in for a long time.

How was this Witton's gate today when we were away? It was V*cs' biggest gate of the season by some 300 odd. Anyway good riddance to them! UTA

Well relegation for Vics today is certainly another new low in the club's history. And of course, there are no guarantees that the club will start next season, and if they do, what league they would play in.

Say they do start next season, there is of course also the chance they could be playing in the same league as ourselves if they get accepted. I remember talking to Vics fans against the idea of 1874 a few seasons back - citing the reasons "You'll be playing Sunday league football at grounds like Moss Farm." Well there you have it, they may now be in that league they so crudely described. It is of course a far better league than that.

Personally, I think the club and its fan deserve everything that is coming to them.

I don't get why those fans deserve 'a crack', Knutsfordian. They supported Rushe and have never said a bad word against him. They criticised the supported led club and yet that is now what they want. They didn't care that the club were being run to ruin even though it was being pointed out to them. With each new embarrassment they backed Rushe to the hilt.

I remember this too, Ben. They always used this argument to say why they stuck by Rushe.

And it was of course of one of their most ludicrous arguments and basically giving a green light to the likes of Rushe to overspend and not give two hoots/turn a blind eye to the debt and other off-field ramifications which inevitably occur from this. Hence the situation they find themselves in now and I have very little sympathy.

They only want vics to keep going because they know it will keep supporters devided!
After all they are only where they are in the great scheme of things because of other teams demises, they have never EARNED their position, it's be given to them!!!

Take a look at the Companys House website - accounts still outstanding, Martin Rushe's name against the company. The Rushe family aren't quite history yet.

Bang on the money Kit. We all told them many times. They laughed at us. No sympathy.

Remember, currently you are "Dog and Duck + 1" :)
..and no dodgy money next season with a conference standard ground on crowds of 300-350 atm. If they don't go up will that be sustainable?
