Lots of things could happen. The majority of them won't.

You talking about Labours Manifesto promises now? ;)

I wasn't but, on reflection, it could apply to any of the manifestos. None of the parties could possibly be expected to pull together particularly well-considered works in a matter of weeks. They tell us what they think we want to hear and then wing it from then on.

Ask David Cameron - he can tell you a lot about ill-thought out manifesto entries!

Cut income tax, cut VAT - get people spending, get the economy growing and jobs being created. Thats a fair society.
And that's also another statement which totally fails to address the central point of how society pays for the social infrastructure.

Speaking of "vanity projects": give me two letters of the alphabet and a number. (I'm in quizzical mood tonight)

Thames Garden Bridge???

How is that "two letters of the alphabet and a number"?!;)

Much much bigger.

When Michael Foot tried a similar tax, spend, re-nationalisation manifesto in the 1983 election it was described by Gerald Kaufman (labour MP) as the longest suicide note in history. This may well go down as the next best. There's no doubt that the left of the Labour Party will love the commitments made in Corbyn's version, but there are many in the centre ground who will not and its quite telling that many previously high ranking Labour people are conspicuous by their absence in the run up to this election. So as NIcki points out its an election and people will be asked what they think and vote accordingly - but be prepared if the consequences are the same as 1983.

Toodle pip !

Well it does.

Wealth growth and job creation leads to less people being reliant on the state.

Lower taxes often actually lead to a net growth in monies coming into the treasury.

Both of these things lead to more spare cash in the budget that can be spent on things such as social infrastructure

Knutsfordian - you write as though you think people are expecting something other than a Tory win - and that we're somehow all going to be terribly upset and surprised when it happens.

Personally I'm just flabbergasted that Labour is doing as well as it is in the polls given the quite appalling media bias. They're a 5 a-side team playing against a full squad and the officials. They don't stand a chance and, despite what you think, that's not all down to them. They're shooting towards a Subbuteo net whilst the Tories have been gifted a full-size one. Take away the Brexit factor and you'd have the Tory back four starting to shank a few into row z in panic.

Tally Ho!

And that economic theory unfortunately does not appear to work, particularly when you have a government which is averse to spending on social infrastructure and prefers to do precisely the opposite under the guise of cutting a national debt (while actually increasing it) and which regards the creation of zero hours and gig economy jobs plus the meteoric rise in "self-employed" as evidence of job creation and then objects to increasing in-work claims for state benefits and imposes blanket caps and cuts on these, including those awarded to the most vulnerable in society who have no prospects of sharing in the "job creation".
Not saying that the current version of Labour has all the answers. But at least it is posing some relevant questions. I have no doubt that the majority of the electorate will admire the policies while rejecting the leadership team, and that they will vote based on the latter rather than the former, but I despair for the state of this country after another 5 years of this brand of Conservatism.

"That economic theory doesn't work"

But you're happy to try the Socialism of Corbyn that's been tried time and time again, and time and time again it's brought the contry it's been tried by to its knees.

Here we go back to hard Brexit. Given that all the EU parliaments are likely to vote on this, (I think) its more likely that any agreement will be rejected by someone/somewhere and we walk away. It won't be of the UK's making but what we end up with. If any of the other parties think it to be different (I think) they are naive. Time will tell .

Dont you think EU members will do exactly as their German masters tell them.;)

I think there are different flavours of Brexit when it comes to immigration and freedom of movement.

I'm interested - Brexiters, what is it that you want from the immigration and freedom of movement side of Brexit? What does the ideal look like to you?

It's not a loaded question. Genuine interest.

Control of it. That is all. Fully support people we need coming here and helping people in genuine need.

But what does that control look like? What will people need to do to live in and visit UK, what will we need to do to live in and visit EU?
