ARE WITTON IN FREE FALL

I was a bit slow there I now realise what you mean. You can't afford to get promotion.

One thing I don't understand Paul why would Witton have to put a understrength team out against 1874.You have just received a lumped sum of money and have Vics paying a large rent,so why can't you sign more player's on,after all you want to win the league and the only way to do that is to invest in the team?.
Because we wouldn't want to risk injury and/or suspension with so many league games (and the Cheshire Cup) to fit in before the end of the season. John hit the nail on the head when he said you may not put your best 11 out either because you have other priorities at stake. This is true for both clubs.

I'm sorry to say Toddy but the Mid Cheshire Cup is not what it used to be. Neither of us need this game at this stage of the season. You probably have more flexibility to play it than we do, fair enough.

Paul what does Mr Wonder mean then,is winning the league not your dream, and Mr Wonder said it will lead to doom.My original Question was why do you not strengthen you team, with the extra money you have received and the increased rent you are getting from Vics.

Because the rent money was used to pay down debt and supplement the existing wage bill, the latest windfall will not be used to supplement the team wage bill, it will be used on Debt, infrastructure and projects ! mainly invested to give a return where possible not eaten away just on paying more wages/signing on fees etc. I would suspect we will meet the minimum obligation of first team squad players required in the cup rules as per the Cheshire cup vs Barnton ( 5 -1st team squad players required ) the rest will be development squad players ! if that costs us the game so what ! that game will not define our season but promotion certainly would and we still have a lot to do to get there.

Funny that, because lots of other local clubs seemed to have a good idea with what was going on. Should have a read on other discussion groups, Chester fans had heard the rumours, as had Wrexham fans. Northampton fans had also heard the rumblings.

I love the banter between us and W*@@*n but there is a thin line between banter and sheer hatred. I hate the hatred.

I think the 'drug money' debate has been done to death and it is about time we moved on.

The fact is that Mr Harris had and still has a responsibility to his share holders to do the best for W*@@*n. There is no way that he was going stand in front of his shareholders and announce that he turned down a good deal based on rumours he had read on other clubs discussion groups! Come on get real.

I think all the the energy and effort being wasted on this hate should be redirected towards love and promotion of our own great club - it is early days and we need all the energy and effort we can get!

Great post.

If any fans should understand about using money to pay down debts (as CJ said, no idea if it's true but would imagine it is), it's us.

Our once great club was ruined by not paying debts, spending on players we couldn't afford and look how that ended up!

However, if we do beat you in the Cheshire cup we'll take great pleasure in it, regardless of the squad you put out - just like you W*ttoners would do if you beat us!

Whether you see it as important or not, a win for us would be great publicity around the town - so I hope we go all out for it

Of Course we expect stick if you beat us ! thats as it should be but if we beat you with a reserve team out then game on !!!!!

Know matter what the Wittoner's are saying I very much doubt they will put a much weakened team out against us,but I'm glad it's at Winsford, there's no chance the team will be run over by the mower if we win.

Oh dear is that the best you can do,it will not be of bad sportsmanship.

By the way Knutsfordian we never did get an apology for that disgraceful action after our thrashing of Witton last season,or do you think it was OK?.I don't expect a reply.

Toddy at this stage of the season I will give you my predictions:

Atherton Collieries to win it with 1874 second.
Witton to go up through the play offs.
Cheshire Cup - Anyone's
MCSC - Us or yourselves!!

given the state of fixtures this year - if there was any sense it would be moved to a pre-season friendly next summer

Could not agree less it's a cup competition, and one we value and wish to win,as we do with all the games we play.Fans have the right to expect their club to do their best in all games, after all they pay to watch. It's also unfair to the other clubs in the competition and showing them no respect by undervaluing any competition,so if you don't want to play in it don't enter it.I am against it being played next year,it's this years cup tie and should be played this year.So if you don't want to play the game drop out.But don't winge and moan about how many games you have to play, you are not the only club to have been in that position,so if you need more player's sign some on and fulfil your commitments, otherwise whats the point in entering them.

We dropped out because we could not get a team due to the player's work commitment's,not because we did not want to play the game, remember our player's are not semi professionals like your's.We did pay the price,we were expelled from the competition.

clubs are not allowed to withdraw. Failure to fulfil a fixture incurs financial penalties. I would prefer not to enter, but that again is a personal opinion and I am not sure whether participation is optional.
