From the CAMRA Good Beer Guide

This small, characterful local is situated above the brewery itself and is decorated with photographs of old Ramsbottom. Eight handpumps usually offer the full range of Irwell Works beers.. The beers are traditional in style, brewed with English hops and barley. Snack food is available at the weekend. Situated in the centre of Ramsbottom, a short walk from the East Lancashire Railway, a visit to the tap makes a pleasant day out.

Unfortunately the E Lancs railway isn’t operating on Saturday ☹️

For those wishing to travel there by public transport, it’s pretty easy but takes a long time!

Train from Northwich to Alty as usual and then the tram from there all the way to Bury. Takes about 1 3/4 hours. Once you get to Bury tram bus interchange you will need the 472 bus from Stand P. Departs every 20 mins and takes 20 mins (the East Lancs Heritage railway doesn’t start operating until next weekend?)

The great value Wayfarer ticket would cover all this! But pl note this is only available from Northwich onwards.

So for those wanting to have a few beers in Rammy, you’ll probably need to leave on the 0833 from Northwich.

Game off - waterlogged pitch

Very disappointed with the late postponement of the match. Was there no early pitch inspection and alert to those travelling ?
The guys up there had worked on the ground and it was playable an hour earlier. The rain then came down very heavily and was quickly sticking, by this point the match referee was on his way so they had to wait for him. He arrived at the same time that we did (1pm ish), and we all knew straight away that it was not playable. They had prepared for it, including buying the food in etc, so they were bitterly disappointed too. Hopefully when the message was sent out, many were able to turn round and head home. It seems most of our team, and quite a few supporters, made it to the local pub and had a good catch up!!!

As Vicki alludes to in a later post , the news of the postponement reached us about 1 pm and thankfully our mini bus had arrived in RAMSBOTTOM over an hour earlier so an excellent day was had by all at the Irwell Brewery ! Great to see just about all of the entire squad compact, together and enjoying an afternoon off !

Glad that your journey was not totally wasted. My car load set off in good time to get to the ground after several morning checks on the forum to ascertain if the match was in doubt. There was not a dicky bird, including any mention of a pitch inspection etc. For the match ref to call it off there must have been an extraordinary amount of precipitation around 12 to 1.30. When we arrived, conditions in the car park were tolerable. Can't comment on the pitch because the gates were locked. Not seeking to blame anybody, a bit better communication to those travelling fans (from Ramsbottom via 1874) would have been appreciated.

It's been rearranged for Tuesday 1st March.
