Enough is enough

Correct. Richard’s earlier post re the difference in re numeration we could offer Scubs and what Vauxhall offered him makes it starkly clear what a challenge we face in recruiting players of sufficient calibre and experience to make us competitive at this level.

So to those fans whom are saying that blaming our limited budget for our current situation is a “cop out”, I say to them get real.

It’s not fun watching the club we love so much and worked so hard to create struggle. But would you rather go back
to the days of watching The Vics, putting up with incompetent liars running the club and having to get
the begging bowl out every few years when the next fiscal crisis hits the club?

Or maybe you’d rather we chase the dream and splash the cash we have in the bank on doing that and end up in sheet creek without a paddle?
I don’t need to “get real” thanks, James. I’ve been involved with watching the club home and away most weeks from the very start and I’m well aware of the limitations we have in terms of budget and the challenges of competing at this level.

Of course we have to live within our means and don’t want to go back to the Vics days. However we do have to find ways to increase our income which I know we’re always trying to do and I always look to get involved with any fundraising initiatives etc so we can hopefully compete at this level.

The only point I’m trying to make is we can’t lay the budget at the door of everything. The same arguments were being made during the final days of GoBo for not being able to recruit players etc. Things like not being able to defend set pieces, not making subs to the last 20 minutes, being 3-0 up and losing 6-3 in the last 15 minutes, not signing a left back when we’ve had weeks to do so and been able to sign players in other positions, isn’t down to the budget in my opinion.

Equally we don’t want our gates to plummet so we’re barely getting 200 which is what will happen if we keep losing every week and are facing relegation by the New Year like we did last time in this league and this will lose the club money we can’t afford to do so. Then we will have an even bigger problem. Fortunately we at least for now have the extra away followings that this league brings.

An interesting debate with lots of good points raised with the best interests of 1874 at heart of everyone.

I'll be at the game tomorrow and on Saturday - most of you know who I am, pop over and if you have any genuine ideas, concerns or just want a chat to air any opinions, please feel free to approach me. At the end of the day, I know I am the club's chairman, but I am a fan first and foremost and want what's best for our club and really care about the opinions of our fan base.

Well said, Jack. I’d always be the first to have a chat with you as you know.

We might not always agree but everyone on here has the club’s best interest at heart and make the comments they do because they care and are passionate.
