Chasetown

Can’t add much to Andy’s comments.
A tight battle that we came out on top

Max made a good save at 0-0. Possibly their only shot on target?
Ben followed Kev’s shot in to give us the lead & a really good penalty from John to seal the points.
A couple of flashes of real quality from Evra Yao when he came on.

All in all a really positive afternoon

Really impressed again today.

Opening 30 was an even game, chasetown looking slightly more composed, but towards the end of the first half we seemed to settle, and then were the better team from that point on.

Really good win today.
Thought the first half was poor from both sides. Only 3 shots on target and all from us. Mainly just hoofing the ball up and down the field with little quality. Second half was a lot better. Their keeper made 2 fantastic saves to keep the score at 2-0. In the end a thoroughly deserved win that gets our season nicely under way.
I find it encouraging that we have a young team who are still getting to know each other and I’m sure they will improve a lot as the season progresses.

Fantastic result today, 3 points - and at the first opportunity to do so in the league in front of a home crowd, since that terrible season we had to endure last time out at this level!

I said at the time when Rory came in, let’s see how the recruitment and rebuild goes before we pass judgement - so far I think he’s done a terrific job at rebuilding and replacing man for man.

Special mention for me, for Blake Robinson — he’s been immense in the engine room so far. Brings that constant energy and commitment that I feel we’ve lacked far too often in recent years, and seems to cover every blade of grass. He’s also bringing the same levels of quality and consistency that Jonah has given us for so many years. Looking forward to hopefully a fruitful connection between the pair in the middle this season, would be hard throw anyone else’s hat in the mix for a place in the middle for me.

Onwards and upwards Greens!!

Best home performance I’ve seen for a long, long time. Couldn’t pick a MoTM as every player was just superb.

One Swallow does not a summer make and there will be lots of tough challenges ahead, but you could see by the reaction of both the fans and players what it meant.

A great springboard going into the next 2 important matches 👍🖤💚🖤💚

What excites me is having 4/5 forwards, all equally as good rotating and competing for a place.

In 13 years we’ve seemed to always have to rely on the excellence of one forward, now we have a number of great forwards to call up on.

Excellent team performance today and a great first win of the season.
First half pretty equal and I was bit concerned we didn’t create too many chances - bit like at Newcastle T.
However second half we improved with every minute and deservedly took the lead with well taken goal by Ben Crane. A cool penalty taken by McGrath to double the score.
Plenty of decent and promising efforts from the team. I will single out Niall Osborne as best performance for me. Also liked look of Evra Yao.

A really enjoyable afternoon and a great win which hopefully will boost confidence. First half was a bit concerned we were not creating many chances despite playing ok but as the second half progressed we got better and better. Can’t really single out any one player as the team all played well as did the substitutes. If we can keep this level up it all augurs well for the season. Long way to go with many ups and downs I know.

Can’t really add to above comments. Absolutely class yesterday. Were it not for a few top saves from their keeper it would have been more than 2. As dominant a second half performance I’ve seen from us against a step 4 side in a long time.

Very early days but if we play like that we’ll be fine this season. Well done to Rory who looks to have done a great job assembling a squad virtually from scratch capable of competing at this level. Hopefully more of the same in another tough test at home on Tuesday now.

Really good result and performance yesterday by the whole team, I actually will give Chasetown a bit more credit than others have on here as I thought they were set up well and were energetic and pressed us well in the first half without really causing us too many problems defensively, second half though I thought we were able to play more of our game and played some good stuff and caused them problems, pleased for Ben Crane to get his goal as I thought he worked hard without getting much of the ball in attacking areas all game, Evra Yao looks a good player who can cause problems for defence's and along with Kenny, Kevin and Ben or Harry etc we look good in forward positions, one slight area of concern for me though and it might not be a popular one (and I feel bad saying it tbh) is that I'm not completely sold on Jonah and Blake as the midfield partnership particularly if we're up against a young physical midfield as although he's ridiculously fit I think it's a lot to ask of Jonah (although he is like iron man) over the course of the season, hope I'm wrong on that but just feel we could do with another physical player in there alongside Blake

Really good performance and a very encouraging one too from a team that only had four regulars in the starting 11 from last season. A couple of immediately noticeable thing to me is that the team has a clear structure and greater energy/work rate in the competitive games i've seen so far.

For the first time in probably three seasons, i'm not panicking when we have the ball that we are one pass away from making a simple error that we get punished for (Interestingly enough VM got punished by 2 defensive errors yesterday from reading their Twitter).

Still very early on but there is plenty to be encouraged about so far and the more games the squad gets under their belt, the more they will gel. Roll on Tuesday and the FA Cup on Saturday.

A few Chasetown fans on SM posting if it weren’t for their keeper’s performance the scoreline might have been considerably worse🤷🏼‍♂️

The first half was a bit scrappy, but a good battle between the two teams, we probably just edged it with a couple of half chances for Kenny.

I thought they came out looking stronger in the 2nd half and there was a big save from Beddow prior to us starting to look the more dangerous team.

Their keeper made a great save from a Ben Crane effort outside the box.

Ultimately they then paid the price for their centre backs trying to play out from the back on a rock hard pitch. Both our goals came from them getting caught in possession, which is to our credit, as the forwards defended form the front all game.

As others have said, a good win to get the confidence up, in a game that could have gone either way for 60 minutes.

Have been impressed so far by most of the squad. With 24 signed on, it may be hard to keep them all happy but Rory seems to have done a brilliant job in a short space of time to put a side together that can compete in this league.

Roll on Tuesday…
