Our NPL West campaign kicks off this evening away to Newcastle Town.
Following a convincing 3-0 FA Cup win against Rossington Main at the weekend, confidence should hopefully be high!

Familiar face Joel Jones will probably be leading the line for Town.

A 1-0 defeat.
No shame in that. Matched them for most of the game.

Their goal came from us giving away a freekick after our own short corner routine failed. Just cross it in next time!

Definitely encouraging signs. Played some very good football on the deck, which was refreshing.

Bring on ChaseTown.

A committed performance tonight upon our return to step 4. It was soon obvious how big the gulf is from the Midland League.
Some good football along the ground at times and good displays especially from Max Beddow in goal.
Defensively we stood up to pressure from Newcastle particularly in first half.
However for me the midfield did not create enough and the forwards need to be far more ruthless. You have got to do better in this league with half chances and not dither when a chance falls your way. Castles goal was an example of how take these.
Anyway an enjoyable game.

Spot on Bri, if we score the chances that fell our way we get a point out of it. Albeit probably undeserved point given their chances and Max’s performance

If I remember rightly the free kick came from one of our players getting a yellow card for trying the pull the NT player's shirt off. We did play the ball on the ground much more than they did but the front 2 got no decent feed. Max Beddow comfortably MoM for me, at least 4 top quality saves

Agreed Max was excellent and a clear MOM with one of his saves unbelievable, early days but we created virtually nothing but were unlucky not to score just before half time with a goal mouth scramble, a shame as we had a really good following for a Tuesday night.
See you all Saturday.

Just watched the VEO of the match. Thoughts are
1. We have a really good team that all seem comfortable on the ball
2. They play the game in the right spirit as did Newcastle.
3. Our young (18?) goal keeper looks a real find. No frills but looks very competent which is the way to be at this level.
I think we will do comfortably well this season and am looking forward to it now whereas before I was worried about how good a virtually new team our new manager could put together in such a limited time.
Happy!
