Went to watch our potential FA Cup opponents against our neighbours last night.

Witton were well beaten by Ashton, who looked really well organised as ever. On the run of the game perhaps a 2-0 win would have more reflected the game.

Ashton will be very difficult to beat with the tall centre half and captain expertly marshaling his team. They certainly took their chances whereas Witton didn't. Witton gave the ball away so much and were second to most balls. They brought on Titchner towards the end but even he couldn't get past their defence. Ashton's new goalkeeper was very vocal and complemented the captain, but he really only made two or three goods saves.

Ashton will be up there in our division, as for Witton, if this is their strength in depth they need to look harder.

Didn't go to this but sounds like we gave several reserves and fringe players a game. Shame about the result though as we've won every other pre-season friendly, not concerned by the result at all. Think witton will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Preseason is not about winning matches, its about testing players and managerial tactics in preparation for the coming season.

Get wound up when clubs publicise their winning streak during preseason, it means bugger all, teams learn just as much from losing.
