MEMORIES OF NORTHWICH

Bears Paw !!, at the Market end of a New Street, used to go for a ," gill of mild" for my old feller when I was a kid, other end of the street was Penryn Arms.

You will recall it as well, Toddy.

Weren't the dances in the baths (if you get my meaning)?

Went to primary school at Barnton Runcorn Rd, before transferring up to
" the big school" on Townfield Lane after it stopped being the secondary school.
A certain Mr Spencer might also have a few memories.
Mrs Burgess, Mrs Doxey, Miss Parr, Mr Jones, Mr Harper.
Oh happy days !!

Here are three more poser's for you.
Where is there a Victorian Pumping Station in Northwich.
What is the name of the stream that runs under the bridge at the top of New Warrington Road.
Where is the Cricket Bridge.

Pumping Station is under the Arches, by the weir on the old arm of the Weaver.
Wade Brook is the stream at top of New Warrington road.

The only bridge I can think of goes over the railway, bottom of Victoria Road.
Overlooking the cricket field.
Never heard it called Cricket Bridge though.

Here's one for you Toddy.
What was the name of the headmasters house in the grounds of Sir John Deanes Grammer school.
Hint : Elves, that's elves not Elvis.

Sorry Steve failed my 11 plus went to Rudheath.

Riverdance?

This is like the episode of Father Ted when Mrs Doyle tries to guess the name of Father Todd Uncious

Yes Steve it was called that back in the day.
What pub had the nick-name The American Embassy.
What pub had the beer barrel's behind the bar and the ale was tapped straight from them.
What was the name of the two pub's by the train station, and are now flat's.

By the station ... Locomotive and Lion & Railway (went to Victoria Rd school with landlord's son back in early/mid 60s - he had pet reptiles including a snake of some sort; always thought that was very exotic back then)

Must admit I remember it as Rivendell ( as in Tolkiens Lord of the Ring ).
But I could be wrong It was a long time ago.

Many a happy an hour spent playing tennis on the grass courts next to the house until some miserable old git would kick us off.

That's my one notable fact of Northwich history proved wrong.
Typical.:(
