Great result!!!

My stance being that we should not pretend to be the new Northwich Vics? My money says we'll gain more fans this way than we would ever lose by not trying to be them.
I honestly think (my opinion) we'd lose a lot more local support by trying to be them. The club would without doubt lose my support if we as much as contemplated it, absolutely no question. The "ashes" of Vics that 1874 has risen from has been touched upon; not quite there as Vics are still in business, but I take on board the point, it might feel like that. However those inevitable ashes are just that, you can't reconstruct anything from them, as much as some would love to do so (and I can appreciate that sentiment to some extent) - but it is time to move FORWARD now .... and '74 are successfully doing that. Long may it continue. :scarf:

Just listen to the noise after Bails' second goal last night.

We are 74'!

Said this many times, we have given a nod to our past with the name and the colours, that is all it is now. We are our own club, creating our own history, picking up friends, followers and admirers as we go. Vics were never run the way '74 is run. It's just the best feeling, being a part of this club.

See you Saturday.

I can see what Peter is saying as some fans do want to remember where we come from and give a nod to the past, hence the badge, the 1874 name and the green shirts. The fact that being an 1874 fan means being something different to everyone is one of the great things about our club.
However, others (including myself), would prefer to distance ourselves from Vics and their toxic brand as much as possible and would have chosen a different name, badge and shirt colour.
I think now is the time for us to focus on 1874 and what we're all about, which is continuing to do things in the right way on and off the pitch. We're fan-owned, sustainably run, are competing near the top of the league and have the prospect of a very exciting future ahead of us.
None of the above can be said for Vics. So let's concentrate on getting our name out there and what we're all about and ultimately continuing to build and grow, develop our fanbase (hopefully winning current Vics fans back along the way) and get back into Northwich. For me, now is the time for us to forget about our ties with Vics and think 1874.

Andy summed it up - we are different things to different parts of the fanbase. And no matter what any of us may think, that will be so for many years to come. It is something we have to learn to live with and (however difficult it will be) try to build on. We cannot deny the past, the heritage, the reasons why we came into existence, but equally we cannot project ourselves as a relaunch of the old club (whether it withers away or not). It is a difficult balance to achieve, and personally I think the rebranding of the club badge/logo is a very positive step, while at the same time seeing our name and some element of green as equally important.
But I know and accept that others will see things differently.

Isn't the Northwich Guardian now out on Thursdays?

If so, today we should make the most of the explicit reference to the two clubs on the back pages to explain to school mates, college mates, work mates, friends and family just who and what 1874 is.

Get the name and the 1874 story out there as much as possible today. Casually leave a copy of the Guardian lying around, wear your '74 clothing, drink from your '74 mug... don't leave anyone in doubt about who we are.

I don't normmally go into print on here, but now having read all the above comments I feel I have to say something. I'm glad I went on Tuesday, I wasn't well, I was awful to see how low the team i had supported for most of my life had fallen. Most of you who know me know I'm a socialist at heart and had we been allowed to do this at Vics a few years ago 1874 would not have existed but the dictatorial leaders at Vics would not allow this to happen.

I'll never forget that day playing away at Burry's ground when Jim Rush was shown the red card by the supporters on the 18th and 74th minute of the game, it was a moment of pride.

In the same way it was a moment of pride when 1874 was born, by those very same supporters who had shown Rush the red card.
I will always support Northwich 1874, that isn't in doubt, but I will never forget where we came from and why.

Without those ex Vics supporters 1874 would have a very difficult birth and may well have been stillborn. I just ask you to think about that when you talk of changing colours etc., We are Green and Proud to be so.

I don't think the colours are ever going to be changed Stevo - the debate is a philosophical one rather than a real one.

The difference is - and it's just a difference, there are no right or wrongs(!!!) - you are green and proud to be so, others are 1874 and proud to be so, whatever the colour. For some, the history (heritage) is ultra important, for others it isn't. I think for some it was at the beginning but has become less so over time.

We have the name, we have the colours and, as said, I doubt they will change - even I'd be against that now that we are where we are :scarf:. Some changes are just required for progress and for the good of the 1874. Changing the badge was one of those things.

I doubt anyone will ever forget where we came from and only a dim-wit would try to disassociate our heritage from Vics. I have some great Vics memories (along with some pretty crap ones on and off the field) but those memories are not a part of MY football future.

I am 1874 and proud (they happen to play in green). :scarf:
