AGM cup 23/24

Steps 5 & 6 have been told no extension

In the 24 strong NWCFL Prem Charnock Richard have 18 games to fit in
Ridiculous given CR didn’t even have much of a Vase run this season.

Yet the Midland League Premier operates with just 18 clubs 😳
And doubtless operate with eighteen again next season. Whereas the Counties ……. who knows .,…. 26?

As mentioned by @Tez in the Midland League thread, Hednesford could well be joining us next season

The NPL West 19th place side is now confirmed to be Hednesford and they will finish with between 32 and 35 points.

The NPL East 19th place team could be one of realistically 3 but mathematically 5 sides, they will finish with between 32 and 35 points. Grantham are a point behind Hednesford but have 2 games in hand.

The NPL Midlands and Isthmian South East 19th place sides can only reach a maximum of 32 points, they also have a goal difference of at least 12 worse than Hednesford so it is very unlikely the reprieve will go to either of those divisions.

As I've just put over there, the minimum points for NPL East is wrong. Winterton play Grantham on the last game of the season, which means 19th place is guaranteed 33pts minimum.

Hednesford play Bootle last game. Bootle only need a point to guarantee playoffs, but they do need that point as a loss could see both CoL and Witton finish above them should they draw their game.

In the case Hednesford lose that last game then they are down no matter what. A draw would see them at a minimum looking at GD per game as a tiebreaker (which is favourable to Hednesford, but only 2 goals in it v Grantham). Then again Grantham have 2 games midweek to make it impossible for Hednesford to catch them no matter the Bootle result.

The other caveat to all this is that any team at Step 3 or above withdrawing before AGMs would save Hednesford, as would any team in our division withdrawing or being demoted. Withdrawals from other step 4 leagues would not affect them.

Edit - If Grantham win tonight, then 19th in the East is guaranteed to be 35 points. Hednesford could only get out of it by beating Bootle and on GD/game.

Could Southend be the wild card that saves them?

Grantham won tonight. Means that Hednesford now need 3 results to go their way on Saturday including their own vs Bootle if they want the last reprieve. If not then they'll be Midlands bound with us and we'll likely lose Atherstone Town out of the division.

That's a bit of a bugger. Haven't Hednesford got some money behind them now?

£10k per week
Will the owner be prepared to throw £10k a week at the squad? Will the players who’ve cost that £10k in wages (or whatever percentage they’re currently spending🤷🏼‍♂️) still stay around at Step 5 - probably a step or two lower than their playing potential 🤔
We’ll have to wait and see.

Well, it was £8.5k, but from what I've heard he's willing to increase the spending whether they survive this season or not.

Money talks. Players will play at lower levels for more money. It's happened to us this season. A higher level isn't always that appealing when you can earn more and win in the leagues below.

They haven't exactly managed the money well this season, so it doesn't guarantee success.

A bit of a bugger for us if we harbour ambitions of winning the league/promotion next season.

Hednesford would have to be favourites with their financial backing. Money does talk. They’d easily be the biggest club in the league in terms of name, ground and attendances.

There is more than one promotion place up for grabs though😉

We're all Hednesford on Saturday, then!

Am I right in thinking the two Hednesford games could’ve gone either way? A blank canvas for us come August (okay and every other ML club too) and with a new Manager and a squad, why can’t we be the ones being chased rather than chasing the others 🤔 🤟

Having Hednesford with us takes some pressure off.
We won’t be the biggest fish & be the club that everyone wants to beat
