Nantwich

We actually signed 3 from what I remember Gabe Ellis, Josh Maris and Dayo Adekoya (though I'm not sure where the latter two are atm)
Josh Maris is at Winsford. Came on for the last two minutes today.

Poor game today that neither team deserved to win. Wasn’t sure about JM’s red but was told after the game that he reacted badly and their bench were furious with his actions. I’m more worried now that he’ll miss 3 games, especially as Joe Hurst has gone back to Newcastle and played in their last 2 games that they’ve coincidentally won. I thought he looked a good defensive signing so disappointed that we didn’t fancy him for some reason. Saturday is a must win game now, we’ve played 5 games against teams we’d all expect to lose against…..Stalybridge / Nantwich from the prem, Chasetown top 6 last season, Prescot 9th last season and money bags Kidsgrove who are scoring for fun and are looking unbeatable currently. We have 2 draws and two very narrow odd goal defeats…Let’s keep things in perspective… we are in for a long season and need to win the games in our mini league with the 6/7 other clubs. Disappointing bank holiday gate today although a rough count looked around 400 including the many youngsters and guardians etc keep the faith COYG
Let’s start with the plus points.

1 Since the opening game we’ve looked defensively solid and hard to break down. Jonah and Matt are continuing where they left off last season.
2 Fenton Green and Jack Marrow are now developing and maturing into the type of player we knew they were capable of being.

Now the less positive points.

1 Apart from young Gabe we do not have a recognised target man / striker at the club. This has been the case since Jamie Reed left. Jack Irlam has done exceptionally well in this role, but time and time again he recieves / wins the ball but has no team mates in support to lay the ball off too. The supposed 4-3-3 formation we operate isn’t working because the two other players in the top 3 are too often either too deep or too wide.
2 When we do bring on subs, it’s almost always on a like for like basis, particularly a winger for a winger. By this time teams are set up to play against us and by not changing our shape or tactics we’re not giving them anything different to think about.
3 We are just far too lightweight. Most other teams are just physically stronger and bigger and as a result end up winning most of the 50/50s. Not sure how we resolve this one…
4 The tactics at Prescot baffled me. All 11 of our players in our box defending corners with no outlet ball. Result? The ball kept coming back into our area until surprise, surprise they scored! So negative!😡

Staying positive (tricky at present I’ll admit), we’re only 5 games into the season and there are signs that the side is beginning to gel together

Simply not good enough today. A loss at home against a poor Nantwich side doesn’t bode well.

The red card looked ridiculous, but at 1-0 down and not looking like scoring in a month of Sundays it didn’t really have any effect on the result in the end.

The effort was there, but with god knows how many playing out of position, and starting yet another game without a striker they were put in a difficult position by management.

On a positive note, Sam looked a threat when he came on. Hopefully he gets a start next week.

Performances have been poor since halfway through last season. Realistically, our good start last year saved us from relegation. This poor standard seems to have continued in to the start of this season. In this time our issues have been clear as day, and management have simply failed to address those issues.

Unless something changes fast, we are relegation fodder this season.
How the linesman saw the red card incident when he was a full 60 yards away is beyond me!! I think that it was the reaction of their bench that got Jack sent off. Will be interested to see the video coverage 😡

Some good points above, the other thing the poor results are causing is less people through the gate, i thought yesterdays attendance was really poor considering there was no other football, give Nantwich 75 tops and that leaves only 250 home fans and floaters, 2 extras came with me yesterday but they won't be back for a while, you could tell how poor it was there was no atmosphere at all.
For what its worth i though Nantwich were an average team but we have to find something more in the final third, their keeper hardly had to do anything yesterday.
Shame Jamie Nicholson was missing as he looks a good player, hope for better on saturday.

TBF that's not much different from Jamie Reed on the bench for us last year - I thought Nantwich were probably the worst of the teams we've faced so far.
I think we competed well against them and stopped them playing for most of the game, we just didn't have enough attacking threat

Doesn’t matter how well you defend. If you can’t score you’re going to win absolutely nothing.

A lot on pressure in the defence through the game and they make 1 mistake late in the game and it’s game over. Just like the last 2 games.

It's over a year since we had a recognised number 9 score in a competitive game

A lot of good points above but let's be blunt - If this continues, we will be dead and buried by Christmas.

Recent results will be the theme whilst we've got our key players fit - We will be hard to break down and not ship many goals, but we wont score many either.

5 games in and plenty of opportunity for change....

When you’ve got a squad that you know probably isn’t as strong as others in the league, making them defensively tight has to be the priority - so apart from the first game that’s been mission accomplished. The managers won’t be blind to the lack of effective attacking play within that system.
Just one point, since we started using that match analysis system (can’t remember what it’s called), I wonder if a management team can become over-reliant on the analysis? I’m sure if you look hard enough you’ll see things that are working? Maybe they should trust their own gut a bit more that maybe it’s not working.

Well that well and truly awful to watch again fed up with same shit Tactics week in week some of our squad is simply not good enough

I know we don't have money for best players but don't cost anything to try something different to same old crap

Any time to vote with my feet will not be paying to watch that Predictable crap again Boot the budget is now cancelled
Cancelling Boost the Budget is not the reaction I would expect from a true supporter. As Bill Shankly said if you support us when we win you should support us when we draw or lose.
That said there needs to be an urgent change either in tactics or the management. Both these changes must be driven by the board.

Well that makes me not a true support so be it I do support the team win lose or draw but hard to support it when keep playing the same way witch dose not work the reason for cancelling BTB are
1 no update for the money is being used
2 I don't trust the management to use the money in the right way
So I will keep my £25 a month until thing change

I don’t think I’ve ever known managers, who seem so reluctant to mix things up and try new things to turn poor form around. As has been eluded to above, our form is shocking, it ended terrible last year and nothing has changed this season 5 games in.

They should be the first to look at it and say we need to try something new as this isn’t working. When they first came in after Street, they clearly worked on things in training, had a clear style and game plan and executed it well. Can’t say it looks like we work on anything in training or have any game plans anymore? Falls on the management to put a plan in place and try and turn this around.

Go 2 up top, try and utilise set pieces more, overload the wings and overlapping full backs - push Matt W forward more to get involved in build up play and get us more in the attacking third - think having the cdm sit so deep sometimes invites pressure on us. Lad like him can play some defence splitting passes, think having him sit deep and just in front of the defence limits the lad.
