Pre-Season Update

As most supporters of 1874 Northwich are aware, over the last few weeks a huge amount of effort has gone into improving the pitch at the Barton Stadium to get it ready for the coming season.

The aim of these works is to ensure that the playing surface is capable of withstanding the additional wear and tear that will result from both 'The Blues' and 1874 playing their first team fixtures on the same ground.

Whilst the vast majority of improvements that have been carried out have gone well, there are still some key areas that have not yet become fully established and we have been advised that any use of the pitch may well result in these areas becoming damaged.

Clearly, the longer term interests and both 1874 and Winsford will be aided in having a robust and high quality playing surface that will not only assist all sides to play attractive football, but will also help to ensure that the number of weather related postponements are minimised.

Given this, it is with real regret that we announce that our inaugural match against Winsford, which was scheduled to be played on Sunday 7 July, has been cancelled.

Every effort was made to try to secure another ground to stage the game. Unfortunately, many other clubs are in the same situation as Winsford regarding their pitch and we were therefore left with no option but to cancel the fixture.

But, as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining.

Because the first ever game that 1874 will play will be IN NORTHWICH on Wednesday 10th July against Lostock Gralam FC at their ground behind 'The Slow and Easy'.

Please get down to the Park stadium for what should be a very special evening.
