Well, things continue apace with our new, exciting and vibrant fans-run football club.

First up is that 1874 Northwich is delighted to announce that well respected member Vicki England has volunteered to become Team Secretary – a role that she has previously fulfilled with another Step 6 club.

This is a hugely important appointment and I’m sure that all fans of 1874 Northwich will wish Vicki all the best in her role and give her all the help, assistance and support she needs.

Welcome aboard Vicki!

Next on the agenda is the key appointment of team manager.

Not surprisingly, interest in the post has been high and at the time of writing we have received no less than 15 applications. These range from a number of young, aspiring coaches to managers with significant experience at North-West Counties League level and through some very experienced former professionals.

The heartening thing is that the vast majority of the applicants understand what we are trying to achieve and share our views and aspirations.

Given the quality of candidates, it really is going to be very difficult to get down to a short-list - never mind choose the person we want to lead our fans run club through its formative years.

On top of this, we continue to make good progress on developing a range of 1874 merchandise that we know will be popular with fans and our aim is to have a range of 1874 leisurewear on sale in the next few weeks.

We might not be able to have this available for the next Social Event on 6 April at Lostock Club when local band ‘Ignition’ will hopefully be the spark of an excellent evening. However, by Monday 22 April – when Andy Morrison is our guest – we’ll hopefully have quite a range of 1874 ‘stuff’ for fans to purchase.

We’re also seeking the opinions of members regarding the style, content and quality of next seasons match-day programme – so watch this space!

Work is also ongoing regarding the web-site and on-line shop. To the technically limited like me, much of this is unseen but we are reassured by our “Boffins” (Board member Mark Riding and long-standing IT guru Mark Edgeley) that the end product will be very ‘wizzy’ and will enable 1874 and its followers to make best use of the latest technology.

But this is just the start of things.

In the next few weeks or so, we aim to announce one if not more fabulous pre-season friendlies, the next stage to gaining membership of the North West Counties League, our entrance into a major cup competition and an exciting opportunity to link our football club with key local voluntary and community organisations.

Plus how we are plotting a course for our community club to get back to the town that it belongs to!

If you haven’t yet decided to get involved with 1874 Northwich, then you don’t know what you are missing!

If you have, then you need to persuade others to get involved!

1874 Northwich - Proud of our history, excited by our future!
