JOINT PRESS RELEASE

Issued by 1874 Northwich FC and AFC Rushden and Diamonds

Two of England's newest football clubs today announced that they have agreed to play one-another in what will be a mouth-watering and keenly anticipated pre-season clash.

Newly formed 1874 Northwich will host AFC Rushden & Diamonds at their Barton Stadium home on Saturday 13 July 2013, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Whilst the match itself will form an important part of both clubs’respective pre-season preparations on the field, there is added importance and meaning to this fixture when it comes to off field matters.

For this game marks the latest meeting between clubs who have adopted the increasingly popular model of supporter ownership, the current incarnation of the Diamonds being formed in July 2011 whilst 1874 were created as recently as November 2012.

Fan ownership and involvement is a model that is becoming increasingly popular at all levels of the game. The model is focused on longevity, sustainability and is guided by careful management, financial prudence and community engagement.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds, playing in their first season of senior football, are currently pushing for promotion from the ChromaSport and Trophies United Counties League Division One. Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich FC, are hoping to join the North-West Counties Football League for the start of the 2013 - 2014 league season.

July's friendly will be an excellent opportunity for both sets of supporters to meet their counterparts and further build upon what is already a strong relationship between the two football clubs, and one that will hopefully last for many generations to come.

The match will also be an excellent demonstration of exactly what supporter groups can achieve when they work together, as well as highlighting the many benefits that fan ownership carries in terms of building a sustainable future.

Credit must also be given here, and in no small measure, to Supporters Direct, who have provided essential and invaluable support to both 1874 Northwich & AFC Rushden & Diamonds throughout their relatively short existence. Supporters Direct are providing invaluable support to a growing number of fan owned football clubs – a model that continues to yield excellent results.
