1874 1-2 Colne

Let’s keep getting results away from home and the home one’s will follow! Two away games next week so we will be fine!

But to keep crowds - and income - up, we’ve got to start to win at home!

Good first half and if Taylor had buried a chance my gran could have scored when it was 1-0 it would have been game over.

But two inexplicable subs by us changed the game. Ok Joe hadn’t been at his best, but Taylor offered a threat throughout the first half.

Cal and Lee were completely ineffectual and as the game went on we just sat deeper and deeper and just gave the initiative to them.

And yet again, no change in shape or tactics to make them think a little and maybe change their shape. Ash - who I thought had a good game - became increasingly isolated with no support from midfield or the flanks. How manty times did we have players bombing on past their midfield to support him!

These really are games that we should and need to be winning, particularly given that they were bang ordinary. ?

James i get you 100% correct you summed up the conversation we all had when leaving the ground nothing to add.

I don't understand how we can go from completely in control of the game at half time to all over the place in the second half, everything that we did well in the first half we did the complete opposite in the second and as much as I respect our managers for the work they have put in to our club I thought that the substitutions bringing off Joe and Taylor for Lee and Callum were ridiculous and completely baffled me (and not for the first time this season either), I know there's a lot of games still to play but I honestly can't see how we're staying in this league unless something unbelievable happens, we clearly need to bring in two or three big physical players to give us some hope of being able to compete and get on the ball more, I've heard that these players are very hard to get a hold of but most of the teams that we've played so far seem to have them so they're clearly out there, I'm not even saying that they need to even have that much quality either tbh all they need to be able to do is tackle and pass the ball 5-10 yards

I think we were possibly too loyal with the squad we had (and felt that over the summer too). Some of them, no offence intended, but probably aren’t and weren’t going to be good enough. And some of them who we were loyal to have thrown it in our face. However, GoBo deserve our support - they didn’t have much notice that they were moving up to a new league and they are the reason we are there.

Goody touched on a number of things in his post match interview, its worth a listen

I think we all need to calm down a little. A game we could easily have won, deservedly drawn but unfortunately lost to a 90th minute penalty which would not have happened if the foul before it had been spotted by the referee who seemed too far away.
That said I agree with much of what’s been posted. Our substitutions weakened us, we had a couple of players who were struggling more than the lads that came off. I can see why we tried to change things following their equaliser but as the game wore on it was all about seeing the game out for what would have been a good point.
Colne grew stronger as the game entered the last 25 mins and their substitutions seemed to improve them.
However we have now played 8 of our 12 games against top 11 clubs and currently lie in a position that we will all be happy with come May. Make no mistake 4 from the next 5 games are massive…3 against teams below us. By the end of November we will know a lot more about our chances of staying at this level. I personally think we will be around 10 points from the bottom 4 by then if we play to our strengths and get behind the boys. COYG

Really frustrating.

On top most of the game, it should have been out of sight before they got their first goal

But in recent weeks both Jack Itlam and James Ormerod have played in midfield in place of the likes of Sam Hare and Jake, ditto Markell coming in at the back. So we’ve got plenty of big lads in the squad.

My gripe is that as I said earlier in this post, we don’t appear to have a plan B and that teams find us a bit formulaic and predictable at times. We pass the ball really well in front of teams , have loads of possession but don’t really test or hurt them!

It speaks volumes that the player I think we’ve missed most this season is Harry Cain. His pace and direct style of play is something that we really could have done with today!

Not sure it was a case of the substitutions having a negative impact.

Their two subs were made directly after their equaliser in a game that they really should have been out of. Their tails were up, suddenly level in a game that really should have been out of site.

Having missed the last 2 games but had glowing reports I was really pleased with what I saw in the first half. Jake was more advanced than previously, Jack was getting stuck in, and Taylor was really giving their defence a torrid time. Our defence were mainly unchallenged and I thought Ethan was doing particularly well.

A great goal from Ash was well deserved and half time came with a positive outlook and surely we were going on from there!

How wrong could I be. Bootle took us apart a few weeks back, but Colne gradually wore us down and we could all see what was coming. Their goal was well worked but it was all too easy. We seemed to retreat with some players going missing. Our midfielders stopped protecting our defence and the two young lads were getting overwhelmed. We called the penalty about 15 seconds before it happened as it was desperate defending at that time.
How do I feel this morning? Frustrated. How we can go from one extreme to the other is baffling. The first half showed that we can compete easily at this level but there needs to be more determination from certain players who when things are going well thrive but when they are up against it disappear. I do agree with some of the comments above regarding loyalty and 3 or 4 not being up to the task but we still have Harry, Lucas and the two new players to come in so we will be fine.

It's clear that there is a mini league of 5 or 6 teams forming just below half way in the league and we do have the ability to be top of that section but we must see games through and score when we are on top.
Next Saturday is so important and looking forward to it even now. Let's get behind these players and the management even though we don't always agree with their decisions. That's football!!

It’s crystal clear that there are more fine margains in this league. We had ample opportunities to put the game to bed yesterday but paid for our wastefulness.

The worrying thing is that we seem to play well for a half only in most games. We somehow need to find a level where we don’t drop off too much and can shut the game down. To be fair we did do that quite well on Tuesday.

Big autumn ahead now with games against bottom half teams where we need to pick up a couple of wins.
