1874 News Toddy Barlow

It is with an enormous amount of sadness that the club learned earlier today that loyal supporter and volunteer Toddy Barlow, had passed away after a very brave fight against cancer.

This is such sad, sad news. I would say that his passing is akin to the untimely death of our much loved chairman, Paul Stockton.

I’m pretty sure that green blood ran through his veins, such was his passion for firstly Vics and more latterly 1874.

My condolences to his family and friends - many of whom are regular posters on this forum. Rest in peace Toddy. You will be sorely missed. ??

Rain or shine spade in hand
Win or lose an evergreen fan
Sweepstakes, race nights, raffles and more
All for the love of our 74
Giving a smile whilst taking a pound
That was your greeting at the ground
A golden goal from a golden guy
Rest in peace in the clouds up high

A fine fine man, a true gentleman. He leaves behind a great legacy, not only with his commitment to 1874 and its fundraising, but also his sterling work with Clive Penny and the Drillfield Trust.

Big boots to fill and as James has said, someone who will be sorely missed by many people.

Condolences to family and his many friends. RIP Toddy Barlow ??

That’s quite beautiful Nicki. Summed him up to a T

I will never forget how he used to brighten up my Monday mornings with his regular visits to my shop. You could set your watch to him popping in around 9:30 - especially if we had scored a few goals over the weekend! Every non-league club needs a "Toddy" - someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes raising money and the profile of their beloved club and he was the best. Keep watching from above Toddy and be very proud of everything you did to help our wonderful club become what it has. Rest in peace.

On behalf of on the rest of Toddy's family, I would like to thank you all for your kind words and thoughts at this difficult time! he was 1874 through and through, he would love reading all of the kind words from any supporters/staff as I do at this time. Toddy truly was a Legend he will be missed!

Nathan (Toddy's grandson)

So sad to learn Toddy had passed away. I spoke to him at Kidsgrove on Saturday with his daughter and he said he was looking forward to the match.
I and many others will miss him. He was a lovely man and took the time out to phone me regularly when I was poorly earlier in the year. He did so much and adored his football club.
My condolences to his family and may he RIP.

Very sad news. Echo all that has been said above. A selfless servant to the 1874 cause who embodied everything good about the club, but his legacy lives on with the many community endeavours & the endless fundraising ways he initiated. Condolences to all Toddy's family and the many friends.

A wonderful tribute to Toddy. It ought to be shared with the whole of the football family by eg publication in The Non League paper and the Northwich Guardian.

It is with true sadness that I accept the demise of Toddy with whom I have known for over 65 years, the friendships he bestowed on his many friends over those years will never be forgotten.

Rest well old pal.

When I made the switch from Vics to 1874 as a 17 year old lad, One of the first people I got to know was Toddy at the pop up shop we had in the town centre. We would sit for hours there along with Frank Fallows, Tony and Pam, and he’d tell me so much about the history of football in Northwich and Mid Cheshire and of all the great players he’s seen and what he hoped for our club moving forward.

As someone who was coming in to a club where the only real familiar face was my Dads, Toddy went out of his way to always speak to me and we always had great discussions on what we thought about the games and performances.

As the years went by I had nothing but the upmost respect for him and we always kept that same level of banter between us. He’d always remind me how much I owed him for one of his initiatives, I bet he was delighted to see we’ve scored 10 goals in our last 2 games! (Thats another £5 I owe mate?)

His superb efforts in raising thousands and thousands of pounds for our club were a huge part to get us to be where we are today, the effort that it took to organise and pull these events of seemingly effortlessly was incredible.

He will be a huge miss, a stellar person with great whit and charm.

My thoughts with all his family and friends at this sad time.

RIP Toddy. ?

Sorry to hear about Toddy, so very sad. First time I got to know of Toddy was when he was the 'keeper in my brother's team, St Helens (named after the Church) in the Chester Saturday League.
Loved the banter on here about his dislike of WAFC and, on behalf of them, RIP Toddy, local football will miss you as well as your family.

Toddy Barlow, a great character, raised a fantastic amount of money for our club, you always had a smile and a chat for us at the ground. You will be sadly missed by your family and club family. Hope you keep watching from above even when we play at W****N, RIP Toddy.
