Lockdowns

1.3 million UK citizens currently resident in EU countries, 5.1 million EU citizens currently resident in UK.

Awkward for you, I’ve already had my first dose ?‍♂️
Wasn’t aimed at you Andy - apologies if this was the implication.

it was aimed at those Covidiots like Laurence ‘Luvvie’ Fox who were protesting in London yesterday.

I’m reviving this thread after a few months.

I see that Covid cases have been coming down at quite a fast rate over the last few days and without hardly any restrictions. Maybe a result of schools closing and the vaccines now really kicking in?

Appreciate the effects (if any) of step 4 won’t be seen yet, but all the same, I do see this current trend as encouraging and validation for the government’s decision to go ahead with re-opening.

I think the discussion along the lines of "if not now then when?" sums it up quite well. Good weather, schools and Universities closed, people on holiday from work so travel lighter too. It was always going to be a risk, but the government has to bite the bullet at some point. An awful lot of air time and news paper columns have been given over to the risks and pingdemic, hopefully if this drop in cases carries on there will be a more even handed approach.

I was dismayed to see some transport unions are threatening strike action because their vaccinated members don't have to isolate if pinged. Can't quite get my head round that one at all - just looks like a chance to put the knife into the paying public (again!)

Yes, the July 19 re-opening made sense to me for all the reasons you outline. Wait until September and you’re entering virus season and the kids are back in school, which then could have meant restrictions until next year.

Maybe we’re also seeing evidence of Delta hitting a vaccinated wall and of it dropping off a cliff as quick as it spread. We’ve seen this with India already. Let’s hope we won’t see a return to restrictions/lockdowns again now.

Doesn’t make sense to me the strike action. They’re vaccinated members and are surely as safe as they’re going to be and should have freedoms back such as not having to isolate or go abroad and not have to quarantine for instance.
