Tory Cronyism

Starmer has just reshuffled his cabinet and once again displayed the total lack of leadership and talent both within the shadow cabinet and Labour Party as a whole. That he has had to keep Angela Rayner and Odious Anneliese in the team at all just goes to show what a dearth of opportunities there are to bring in people who can make areal difference. If this is the best team that Labour can field, how many players short are they of a full cabinet ?

This is serious stuff. Our parliamentary system relies on having a good opposition - and this one doesn't come close

Why ‘odious’? I can’t recall her giving contracts to her mate from down the pub or lying incessantly. And as for Angela Rayner - she left school aged 16 whilst pregnant and without any qualifications but worked her butt off to get where she has got to - unlike those elitist, privileged Toffs such as Johnson and Rees-Smug who were born with the proverbial silver spoon in their mouths.

And as for Labour having a dearth of talent? I give you Liz ‘Cheese’ Truss, Robert ‘Dodgy-deals’ Jenrick and Matt ‘Mr Personality’ Halfcock!

But on one point we will probably agree upon - both Hilary Benn and Yvette Cooper should have been brought into the shadow cabinet

I am not saying Angela Rayner hasn't worked her butt off - lots of people do that in all walks of life - but it doesn't make her (or them) fit to be a minister of state for goodness sake. She might be the darling of the left having risen through the ranks, but life at the top is brutal and you need more than hard work ! You might be able to "carry" the odd passenger in a team, but Starmer doesn't have enough good people to be able to do that.

Saying the Tories are shite doesn't make Labour's problems go away. They are in power and leading in the polls.

Yvette Cooper is one of Labour's disregarded. Not sure why but she is head and shoulders above most others

And ‘Cheesy’ Truss is fit to be a Minister of State?

And you’ve not answered the question about why Anneliese is so odious?

There is nothing to commend her and obviously Starmer now thinks the same. I think she only got the job in the first place as a sop to John McDonnell. She could never come up with any positive outlook - never seen anyone so unpleasant or depressingly awful as a potential Chancellor of the Exchequer

I wouldn’t say Dodds was odious.

But she certainly lacked the ability to be chancellor.

Labour needed to replace her. Issue is, who have they got?

The same with starmer. Who can replace him? Even if you don’t like the Tories, you look at their front bench and you can see the likes of Sunak as future replacement for Boris. There’s no one on the Labour front bench that you could see as the leader of the opposition, let alone the leader of the country.

OK my view of Dodds may be extreme, but she isn't a front bencher we both can agree on.

As for the idea that Angela Rayner could mount a serious challenge to Starmer, let alone Boris Johnson, is laughable in the extreme. I don't know who is blowing the smoke up her jacksie to get to think that she could be a serious contender, but they need a reality check. I have no doubt that she has lots of positives that have enabled her to climb to where she is now, but this country is never going to elect a leader whose sole purpose in life seems to be a hard left attack dog. It's just not going to happen. That some in the Labour movement are prepared to contemplate that outcome, shows how far they are going to have to move to be electable.

But other than Sunak?

Gove??

I was trying really hard not to post anything more about the corruption, lies and cronyism that pervades this rotten excuse for a government, but then along comes another story......

yes James not a gold star for Lord Udny - but did he actually do anything wrong other than not recuse himself from the decision? If he didn't and committed an offence, I get where your coming from. But is that what happened? I suspect he has put himself in jeopardy rather than actually done a miss deed. The assumption that he is bad man is not founded on any truth as far as I can see. Just more bluster !!!!!

You miss the point entirely. You say that this is just “more bluster”. But each and every week there is more and more “bluster”, more and more dodgy dealings. I’ve got RSI in my right index finger with the amount of times I’ve posted on this forum and Twitter re cronyism and dodgy dealings done by this shower over the last 14 months.

Do I really have to repeat ALL the times this has occurred?

And yet to find a crime, location or candle stick. Despite all these accusations, no material criminal act has been prosecuted to date

Bribery is a crime I believe.

Yep and if true then perpetrators should face the consequences

But the allegations here that the bribes were being used within the internal supply chain within China to ensure supply - that's going to be a hard one to prove and has any offence been committed in the UK by UK people?

I despair at the defence on here of any accusations of lies, cronyism, corruption, etc by the current govt with "yes but Labour ...". It's akin to the constant "but vaccines" response to any criticism of anything levelled at ministers.

Yes, Labour are a mess at the moment, but that does not mean that we have to accept the crass incompetence, lack of transparency and refusal to acknowledge any accountability being offered by the government.

Is it not the oppositions job to hold the government to account?

But at the moment all that is in the public domain is accusations. No evidence, no crime scene, no weapon.. If there has been corruption then it should be dealt with according to the law, but up to now absolutely nothing concrete has been produced that show politicians from any party were corrupt. Until it is then the the accusations need to be reigned in, Labour are throwing these accusations about and so far have failed to make any of them stick. Their credibility is zero, not Boris's - he's winning the elections !!

More Tory Cronyism. At least this has made it clear how much it costs to get a peerage - £500k
