Tory Cronyism

So because the chancellor wouldn't meet a pressure group directly opposed to his policy on Covid benefits - that's corruption, sleaze and lies? Stop the blustering and find the crime and then people may start to take notice - otherwise it's just all chaff and is doing absolutely nothing for the credibility of a Labour party clutching at straws
Ah Knutsfordian you continue to defend the indefensible and then blame Labour.

So because the chancellor wouldn't meet a pressure group directly opposed to his policy on Covid benefits ...

No. Those of us who are amongst the 3 million Excluded from government covid financial support are *not* "directly opposed" to Sunak's policy. Nobody has any objection to people being helped by the furlough scheme and SEISS, what we do object to is that we are not being afforded the same levels of support, or rather *any* support at all. All we get are spurious reasons why it's somehow too difficult to cater for the range of reasons for being excluded, plus constantly being told by Sunak and those that defend this "but look at how much support we are giving to groups A, B and C". When you are in group D that is zero consolation.
My own MP, the lovely Christopher upskirting Chope, wrote to me with those very arguments, plus a suggestion that it was to protect against fraud (ignoring all the fraudulent furlough claims being investigated, made by companies while still making their staff work), and said that I could always claim universal credit, and that was after I'd already told him I was ineligible due to the savings threshold.

The Government asked to come onto Newsnight YET AGAIN tonight to discuss the Dyson text scandal but refuse to do so.

Margaret Hodge rightly furious about the continued cronyism, sheer lack of governance re contracts awarded to ‘the usual suspects’.

Listening to Nick Ferrari this morning - not exactly a Conservative sympathiser - and his start point was that Labour doesn't have a case and its getting absolutely no traction outside Westminster.

Its like Labour have started a game of Cluedo. They have the candlestick with a spot of red on it, can't make up their mind whether its wine or blood, can't find a crime scene or any suspects but insist on going from room to room shouting "murder!!". Labour are making themselves look complete idiots. In the absence of any policies or talent, they are desperately trying to pin any old accusation on the government in the hope that something will stick.

In the mean time The government has Brexit done, is building trade deals, the pandemic has been fought and lockdown is ending and optimism abounds once more - Housing market up, stock market up, exchange rates up. Boris coming across as the man who did whatever it took to get us out of the pandemic and Starmer as the guys who made all the wrong calls - backed Remain, backed the EU vaccination programme, backed vaccinating teachers ahead of others and so on.

I have said it before - Labour need to go back to the drawing board. Find some talent. Find some policies, Find some leadership. Find traction in Scotland. Otherwise the next election will be lost, along with the one after that.

hmm, sacking people for cronyism. There's a thought.

Jesus Knutsfordian, whatever drugs you are on, they must be pretty strong stuff! I take it that you are amongst the unicorns prancing and dancing on those sunlit uplands!

Meanwhile 125000 plus dead, PPE scandals, £37Bn spaffed on crap T&T, hungry kids denied food, eat out to kill people, Jenrick and Desmond, Jenrick and Berry marking their own homework, Cummings trip to Barnard Castle, Patel the bully, Acuri, Greensill, who payed for the flat refurb, more £000s spaffed on a needless media centre, Johnson missing the first 5 COBRA meetings, not shutting down our borders early enough, ignoring what was happening in Italy and Spain, exam choas.

And all this in just 14 months!

Christ, he really does have the inverted Midas touch

That's how you would like to see it James, but not sure the majority of people agree with you. Until cummings stepped back into the fray Boris's popularity ratings were sailing away from Keir Starmer, so a lot of those difficulties are behind the government and don't have the traction you would like them to have. You keep banging on about scandals here there and everywhere - but you still haven't found the crime scene. Your not even sure the candlestick is the murder weapon. The longer it goes on and the longer it takes for Labour to uncover any real miss deeds, the more it sounds like empty rhetoric - even with the help of some Sky and BBC acolytes

Carrie is a bigger threat to Boris than Labour

I really don’t care about this flat renovation story, and away from Twitter neither do most people.

I don’t remember this attention when Blair spent £140k of tax payers money on renovating the flat?

Then again, social media wasn’t around then, and you won’t hear anyone talking about it in the real world.

I'm curious why the Daily Mail are sticking the boot in.
What's their agenda?

It's not the amount spent on renovation, it's the source of the funding and allegations of the PM lying that is the issue. As you well know.

Start of a Tory leadership campaign I suspect.

Boris wasn't universally popular when he won the leadership, so this may be an opportunity for one or two old foes to settle scores. If that is the case Labour need to be careful what they wish for. They can't hang Boris for both furnishing his flat and mishandling the pandemic. If he goes now that gives the Tories a clean start post pandemic, so it's a dangerous game being played. If Labour also lose Hartlepool against the backdrop of anti-Boris news, there's no hope for Starmer. If he can't win now he is toast.

What's their agenda?

Papers on the right are happy to stick to boot in, does it show balance or just a willingness to sell papers?

If there is a hidden agenda, I’d assume it’s because they feel that Boris does whatever Carrie says.

Either way it’s better than papers like the Guardian and Mirror that are overly tribal

Honestly, at this moment in time I don’t care. Coming out of lockdown, and rebuilding the economy is what people really care about.

Labours decision to use this as their main attack ahead of the local elections is just bizarre in all honesty. There’s a lot they could choose from, but they’ve opted for this.

Ooops just when Labour thought it was safe to come out and play, they have had to suspend half their councillors in Peterborough for anti-Semitism - that Corbyn blight keeps on raising its head again and again......

Corbyn may be gone, but Labour, especially at a local level, are still in the grips of racists of the momentum group.

Today's crony news from https://goodlawproject.org/update/awarded-contracts-vip-lane/

Good Law Project is today able to reveal the names of four more companies awarded contracts through the VIP lane: Clandeboye Agencies, P14 Medical, Luxe Lifestyle and Meller Designs.
