Hell has no fury.......??
Absolutely ! This is far more dangerous than all the chaff thrown up by Labour, This really could do for Boris, especially if it's not a one off and there are more revelations to come. It seems that Cummings is determined to take revenge for losing his job by taking Boris down, even if it means he will never work in Westminster again.

I agree with you re any divorce between the two countries will make Brexit look like a picnic.

But if the Scots want to go there own way then that is their choice. It would be strange for ardent Brexiteers to be so vehemently against it.
I agree with you James - if the Scots make a fair and balanced decision then off they go and ironically the rest of the UK would be better off financially without them. My point of view is that the SNP are not an independence party, but a separatist anti-Westminster party and are not breaking up the union because it would make Scotland better off, nor are they planning another EU referendum vote. So the current position isn't about independence - its about swapping Westminster for Brussels, which I don't think will leave Scotland better off should it happen.

Dominic Grieve delivering an excoriating resume of the Johnson government and its culture on R4 Today. “a vacuum of integrity.”

Some of us have been saying this for months (as this thread shows). Others have defended Johnson at all times. The ever increasing weight of evidence would suggest that we were right.

Dominic Grieve - the same man who worked tirelessly and conspired against the government to overthrow Brexit and deny the democratic mandate of 17.4 million people? The trouble with Grieve is because of his failure to destroy Brexit and his subsequent ejection from the Conservative party he comes across as being very bitter and isn't any longer an honest, independent arbiter when it comes to assessing Boris Johnson. They hate each other.

What is indisputable about Boris Johnson that is that he won the last election with a landslide majority, got Brexit done and is still leading Labour in the polls !! So love him, or hate him, and clearly Grieve hates him, Boris has moved the country on after the post referendum turbulence and through the pandemic.

only a landslide majority under current electoral system. 57% of people who voted, did not vote Tory. So how popular is he?

What is indisputable about Johnson is that he is a liar and charlatan. Yet you continue to defend him. Unbelievable.

Popular enough to win an election in the UK. You might think that the electoral system is unfair, but its what we have and isn't going to change any time soon.

I said earlier on the he was the least worst option - and that continues to be the case. Until the country has emerged from this pandemic and we are back into something like normal politics and his popularity declines, the conservative party is unlikely to remove him and so there isn't any other choice.

It's also more likely that if Starmer loses Hartlepool, he will be gone before Boris - and if that happens then Labour really have bigger problems to deal with than unseating Boris Johnson. The Tories will do that in their own time, as they do with every leader of the Conservative Party. Labour would be better off spending this time to the next election putting their own house in order, because they are still not a credible opposition/government in waiting and, when that time comes, given the choice between Boris with all his faults and Starmer and a talentless Labour party, the Tories would win again hands down.

Simple yes or no. Do you think that Johnson is fit to run our country?

No - but he is and will continue to do so until there is a better option on the ballot - and none of those will be coming from the current Labour Party
Thank you for answering my straight question with a straight answer.

So if not Johnson (and Starmer either!?) who from the Tory party would you wish to see succeed him ?

Reason I ask is that the Tories are brutal when it comes to ditching their leader if they are seen to be a lame duck or an electoral liability (as I suspect Johnson will increasingly be as the revelations from Cummings come out).

Gove? He’s even shiftier than Johnson and has a few ‘skeletons in the cupboard’ (allegedly!)

Patel the bully?

Sunak?

Rees-Smug?
