so talk about Shit Shows and for an upcoming election in the North East and what do Labour do?

Conservative party chair, Amanda Milling, said: "Labour’s candidate is a failed former MP who has already been rejected by the people of the North East.

"At the EU Referendum in 2016 Hartlepool voted 69.6 percent to Leave.

"Paul Williams wanted to remain in the EU and worked to frustrate Brexit."

Dr Williams was a vocal advocate of a second referendum while he was an MP.

So yes accept that is Tory point of view, but don't Labour see the traffic signs? What madness is this. They should be looking for a future leader to parachute into a safe seat - not making it a marginal they could lose !! For gods sake when will Labour wake up and become electable !! Can't believe Labour must employ advisors - what are they really doing? The EU is lost! Gone! If Labour really want power then start to be a centrist party - not party of hate and division !!!!
Looks like I am not the only one who thinks Paul Willioms should not be the Labour Candidate for Hartlepool

So hold legitimate protests and we’ll retaliate by introducing legislation that moves us closer to being a police state.

That gives the judiciary the power to jail people for up to TEN

Is really where we are heading as a country?

At least the readers of the Mail and Torygraph will be happy??
Stockholm, which is similar to Manchester in terms of population and population density, has fared better. And Manchester has faced harsher restrictions than the rest of the UK!

No, only a couple percent of cases were even traced back to Bars or Restaurants.
But Stockholm is nowhere near Manchester in being a truly global, diverse city with a huge mix of cultures and visitors. So your analogy is spurious at best but at worst completely wrong.

Correct, Labour have a total monopoly on that one!
Hmmm. Yes the likes of Swayne, Baker, Francois, Chope, Davis, IDS, Rees-Smug, the idiot from Shrewsbury et al are all wonderful people aren’t they?

It isn’t strange at all though is it? The SNP were the same when the shoe was on the other foot.

Welcome to the hypocrisy of politics. Shouldn’t be a surprise my now ?
As Douglas Ross was so righteous on Newsnight tonight re Nicola Sturgeon’s failings, I’m sure he will now turn his ire re ministers breaking the ministerial code onto Patel the bully won’t he ? ??

Did I at some point sleep through such prolonged and detailed analysis of the breaches of Ministerial Code by Priti Patel, the lies to Parlt by Boris Johnson, the general cronyism and sleaze in this govt?

Think that I must have given Rip Van Winkle a run for his money!?

Yeah and Whittome who wouldn’t condone the scrubs in Bristol smashing up innocent working class people’s cars in a car park is a lovely woman

Presumably you have never been to Stockholm then?

I don’t think you get the point I was making:

Manchester spent the year in lockdown, Stockholm didn’t.

So before you accuse people of being “completely wrong”, please actually consider the point properly.

she was given numerous chances to condemn the violence and refused every time. Just shows why Labour will not be elected

I wonder when slavish Tory supporters will finally call out their beloved leader for his continued litany of lies?

Or even maybe call for the resignation of the Home Secretary who - unlike Sturgeon, who has been the subject of a Tory MSM witch-hunt - HAS been found guilty of breaking the ministerial code.

Seems that the BBC fact-check team doesn’t agree with your nirvana like view of Sweden

So a Scottish politician who didn’t break the Ministerial Code should resign, but English politicians who did break the Code can carry on with impunity? Ooh, it’s a complicated business this politics!

I can sympathise with what David Livermore says, BUT as a country we are indisciplined, lack self restraint and are quick to blame others when something goes wrong. The overwhelming number of people, and especially the MSM, would slaughter the government for failing to take action to try and reduce deaths, even though it may not necessarily be the right answer. Look at the abuse that Piers Morgan dished out early in the pandemic accusing Boris of going into lockdown too late and thereby costing lives. We can't have it both ways and we can't expect politicians to live with the levels of abuse they have received at times in this pandemic.

Not sure how you made the step from not condemning violence on the streets (where protestors tried to murder police officers (by setting fire to their vehicle whilst they were inside it) to Boris. This was sickening violence on any scale and any sensible person would see and condemn it. It wasn't a protest, it was outright thuggery. If anything undermined the argument against restricting protests it was the violence in Bristol, which was there for all to see. That a sitting Labour MP couldn't separate the difference between the scenarios that unfolded and unreservedly condemn attempted murder, casts a sleight on all other Labour MPs. She should be sacked. It also goes to show that Labour needs to improve its recruitment processes if can't deliver MPs who know the difference between right and wrong.

Nicola Sturgeon hasn't been the victim of a MSM witch hunt - entirely the opposite. Until recently she has been given a free ride on poor policies in health, schools, drugs, financial management, independence and covid management, where she has been lauded despite care home deaths being worse than the rest of the UK. She is besotted with independence, and her place in history, above the well being of all Scotland and Scots people. At last, faced with a real battle to save the Union she is coming under pressure from opposition parties and is cracking at the seams. Labour have refused to take up the sword and it has been left to commentators like Andrew Neil to expose her failings. Labour should be grateful, because without those Scottish seats they will spend a lifetime in opposition. Did she breach the ministerial code? The QC she appointed to hear her case says not, but says its up to Parliament to decide if she mislead the Parliament (so not a ringing endorsement) . Did she deliberately mislead Holyrood? The Parliamentary committee says yes. Her party will line up behind her, so I think she may survive that vote - but the elctorate may take a different view.

So onto Boris. So having said in an election campaign that they would not reduce defence spending and numbers, but would increase spending they find that they need to reduce troop number to fund higher priorities elsewhere - is that a lie? It is always an uncomfortable moment for any government when election pledges and manifestos are not honoured exactly - but are people actually telling lies? A lie is normally defined as a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood. So does what Johnson said fall within those boundaries? On balance most people would say not, but the preoccupation that many people have to taint all our public servants as lie tellers and charlatans seems to dominate political discourse. I have said elsewhere, I think very few politicians deliberately lie or mislead the house as it's too easy to prove. The electorate will have the final say. In 2019 they gave Boris the benefit of the doubt.

Who are the slavish Tory supporters? I have no plans on voting for them in May, after their disastrous handling of lockdowns.

I agree the army shouldn’t be cutting numbers. If anything with the millions set to be unemployed, investment in the Armed forces could really help with dealing with that incoming issue.

Should be more investment in Navy and Air, more so than the Army. After all, Steel not Flesh is a better approach.

There are some good things in the review, such as the permanent base in the Indo-pacific.

I can’t take seeing Labour criticise this seriously however, we’ve all seen the opinions of many of their members and some MPs on the Armed Forces.

Andy - again you may be surprised about my stance on the armed forces given my politics.

I have always believed that troops, ships and aircraft have always been the number one priority for our armed services. Yes, they need to adapt to face the new challenges that face them re cyber attacks et al, and be more flexible to respond to these.

But I cannot comprehend for one second why we would wish to have 40 more nuclear warheads to the massive detriment of our conventional fighting forces. I mean, who the hell are we going to use them against given we’ve already got sufficient warheads in our possession to blow much of the planet ? to bits! ???

And now FFS we have to fly the Union Flag on every building!

I might have mentioned this before, but there had never been a govt in my adult lifetime so venomously partisan, so divisive, so venal, so arrogant, so autocratic, so corrupt & which above all makes not the slightest pretence to govern in the national interest.???

A union flag flying above a United Kingdom government building? Not really something worth being outraged about, James.

Flags flying from government buildings is standard practice all across the world. It’s not fascist.

Only on this country do we have this strange hatred from a minority for a flag. It’s really quite cringeworthy.
