Tory Cronyism

2 separate issues being rolled into one.

With regards to pay rises, I would say that no one should get any rise until all this is over. We can then see what the economy looks like and spend what we have in the best way possible. The furore over nurses is just the Trojan horse for pay a wider discussion on pay that has far wider implications.

With regard to Test, Track and Trace at some point the breakdown of what's been spent where will come under a fine toothcomb, but make no mistake an industry that can manufacture, deliver and utilise 1.5 million tests in a day and then gnome sequence the results is never going to come cheap. Much is being made of paying consultancy staff £1000 per day, but the in the throes of a pandemic do you realistically think public servants could have delivered this on their own? The costs also pale into insignificance when compared to the 100's of billions of £ thrown at all aspects of the rest of the pandemic.

With regards to heads rolling, I suspect that in normal times ministers would have left office, but in these troubled times I think there has been a concerted effort to hold the line. If one minister had fallen, many others would have gone too and it would have been a revolving door. Getting to the end of this pandemic is more important than seeing heads roll in the govt's view and you will get to have your say at the next election
No, the public sector could never have delivered the T&T system alone.

But one of the massive mistakes at the very start of this pandemic - among many - was that Boris and his chums automatically turned to the ‘usual suspects’ to set up and run the system rather than utilising the existing massive expertise and knowledge that LAs and other parts of the health service possessed.

On this basis, it took Boris and his chums just over 2 1/2 hours to spaff another £2.6M of our money on a few new flags, some lights, a bit of IT and.......exactly what?

Meanwhile, the backlog of repairs to our crumbling highway network continues....

And now they’ve decided that it would be a better use of our money to buy more nuclear warheads than provide the NHS workers with a pay rise.
Just when you think that this bunch a low-lifes could not stoop any lower....

I don't think this was the discussion. Cummins evidence to a select Committee is that PHE was a "smoking ruin". You can argue that was due to austerity - but I suspect that will be thrown over. So just say that was true - where were they going to go? There's a slight possibility that our much vaunted public/civil service was putting it bluntly - f&ckung useless. There is responsibility and consequences. It just may well be that all our Sir Humphreys are just as portrayed 30- odd years ago. Lessons learned - our public services need to be able to meet these challenges without all the hysteria and can't do union interventions

Let's just let go of all the anger and focus on what we can do and then public servants will get the respect they really deserve

So, do you think that in the current circumstances it is a good use of scarce public funds to spend £2.6M on a new press briefing room when the existing one had appeared to have been perfectly adequate over the last years.

Simple yes or no please.

Secondly, what justification might there be in spending additional £Bs in increasing our nuclear warheads when such weapons are palpably unsuited to the future threats that we as a nation are likely to face and in particular when much of the key armoured vehicles and tanks are considered to be increasingly obsolete and outdated?

The Tories were once considered to be the party that protected the armed services, but like most of our key public services over the last 10 years they have overseen ongoing reductions in funding, allied to some appalling procurement decisions which has resulted in us in having an aircraft carrier costing £Bs but with no aircraft.

How this massive waste and incompetence is not front page news on a regular basis beggars belief

Yes - £2.6m for a facility that will be seen around the world is a small price to pay if it's done correctly

You either believe in a nuclear deterrent, or you don't. If your going to have it, it needs to be functional and operable. With regard to providing a defence capability that is fit for purpose, I think its going to be increasingly about unmanned drones, cyber warfare and guided armaments rather than assets such as tanks. Some people have big choices to make

so it turns out that what we are really talking about here is that during the height of the pandemic, details of contracts were not published within the stipulated 30 days as the civil servants responsible were busy trying to procure more PPE. It's not that they weren't published, or there was any intent to hide the details. The admin has now caught up with the process and details are again being released on time. So what was the point really? The Good Law Project, a left wing legal pressure group constantly on the look out to embarrass the government, have highlighted a failure in legal duty to publish contract details during the greatest period of turbulence this country has seen since WW2.

I think most of the electorate will see this as a forgivable lapse during extreme circumstances and actually trying to make such a big deal about doesn't reflect well on the Labour party. Given the world has practically been falling apart and some people have been trying to move heaven and earth to get things done and keep people alive - the only thing Labour can find to moan about is a legal breach in reporting due to the extreme workload being experienced within a government department.

I think most reasonable people will see this action as being laughable and a complete waste of public time and money in bringing this to court. All it would have taken to resolve this matter is a question in the House and a bit of co-operation to get the reporting up to speed asap. I think the shame with this sits on Labour's shoulders, not the government's.
Another “forgivable lapse” - or just par for the course with this bunch of spivs nowadays?

Surely you can’t share a tweet from Adonis and be expected to be taken seriously? ?

Adonis is right though isn't he? The Adam Ant fan club are investigating themselves.

More akin to Duran Duran I think. Overblown esteem for their own talent and ability. ?

Don’t you mean the ‘Dead Pig Buggering Society’? ????
Talking of which, the following are interesting insights into how this country is beholden to the wholly undeserved deference to the elite of this country.

Number of meetings between the Treasury and Greensill Capital last year? 10

Number of meetings between the Treasury and the Excluded group last year? 1

Politics is about priorities - and it’s clear where Rishi Sunak’s lie.

An Old Etonian improperly texted the former head boy of Winchester to ask for a £400m loan, so another Old Etonian has appointed a man educated at Ampleforth College to head the inquiry.

That's how it works in this country. Always has, always will. The English establishment looking after themselves. Rotten to is core

So a disaffected old Etonian, who was sponsored through his studies and given amazing opportunities, now feels that he's able to dish out on those he sought to emulate but now feels better off hiding away in that paragon of virtue known as Berlin. Get a grip

So because the chancellor wouldn't meet a pressure group directly opposed to his policy on Covid benefits - that's corruption, sleaze and lies? Stop the blustering and find the crime and then people may start to take notice - otherwise it's just all chaff and is doing absolutely nothing for the credibility of a Labour party clutching at straws
