    Chris Nicholl RIP

Chris Nicholl has died. Yes, I know, a Wittoner, but still. A reminder of the days when the rivalry between the green & red halves of the town was a little more intense.

    From the Outside Looking In….

First game mid 60s, plenty of fond memories, but also plenty of unpleasant ones, usually off-field. I for one could not countenance any amalgamation with NV which did not respect the 74 set-up in all its facets. Otherwise what has been the point of the past 10 years? While sorting through stuff...

    From the Outside Looking In….

Interesting observations from a neutral standpoint, and it's always good to see how others see us, but as others have said there is little which hasn't been chewed over within the fanbases themselves - and for decades before 1874 were formed. Some of us remember the ill-fated and ill-conceived...

    AGM + Stuff

Agreed. Thanks James, and thanks to all involved in the AGM for all the hard work. One brief takeaway from the newsletter report ... kudos to whoever designed the commemorative X74 logo - looks very good & intriguing enough to possibly provoke comments/questions.

1874 News MATCH INFORMATION UPDATE – MACCLESFIELD FC

Having now watched the match I'd suggest they need to invest in a barn door and get their strikers to use it for target practice. Some shocking misses. As for the penalty shouts - the short shirt tug was minimal but outside the box and any handball claim at that close range will rarely succeed...

    Dave Thomas

Very sad news. Dave showed huge commitment to local football over more years than I care to remember and always acted out of the best of intentions as he saw it.

    Kidsgrove Tuesday night

Sounds like a metaphor for the match itself.

    Alan Vickers

It was Feb 3rd 1973, att 658, which google tells me was a Saturday, but not a Bank Hol fixture! Boxing Day was Fleetwood at home (2-2). The return Runcorn fixture was March 17th - also not Easter (just checked). Won 2-1 (Alan Vickers only managed 2 that day), att 784. What would we do without...

    Alan Vickers

Your memory's nearly right, Tez - Alan Vickers got all 4 goals that day. One of the more memorable encounters with Runcorn, and I think you're right about the mudbath. I think he'd qualify nowadays for the description "quite a unit", but I imagine he was a bit of a handful to play against...

    "Local" journalism

My mum used to post it out to me every week in Germany/Austria in the 80s!

    Linnets New Years Day

FWIW having just watched the game I don't think that was a red card either. Certainly not as a "last man" offence.

    Linnets New Years Day

Followed the game via Linnets' radio commentary (and of course our Live Chat), and interestingly their 2 commentators both repeatedly remarked how poor they thought the ref was. Foregone conclusion that we'd get a red card at some point - wouldn't be a proper Linnets game otherwise.

    1874 News Toddy Barlow

Very sad news. Echo all that has been said above. A selfless servant to the 1874 cause who embodied everything good about the club, but his legacy lives on with the many community endeavours & the endless fundraising ways he initiated. Condolences to all Toddy's family and the many friends.

    Mossley 7 (Seven) - 3

Just watched the match footage. Remarkable (comeback, victory, and conditions). My only question is, did anyone actually brave the elements mid 2nd half to take advantage of the free burgers? ;)

    Woolley watch

If you can bear to listen to 7 minutes of talk sport, Matt's here from -24 minutes. Interesting that the presenters regard NVFC as "went bust" leading to us emerging. Cue outrage in Wincham. https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1637672400/1637681400/

    Crowds / Attendances

Good move ... though not sure the prospect of winning a bottle will be enough to get me up there at this time of year, sadly.

    Crowds / Attendances

Social media has been one of the club's particularly strong areas in past seasons, attracting plaudits far & wide. Still got to hook people first though. Difficult to create a "buzz" after the past 2 disrupted seasons, with a stuttering start at a new higher level and with the weather turning as...

    VEO Camera

Totally agree. Happy to have paid £20 to get footage of games relayed to me down here, even if I don't get chance to watch them all. But if there are aspects of the equipment's performance which don't come up to scratch I would expect the company to come up with a cure - it's gone beyond its...
