1874 Northwich Football Club is very sorry that we it had to make the heartbreaking decision to concede our Second Round FA Vase tie against Morpeth Town.

The club was determined to do well in this season’s competition. Ian Street travelled up to watch our opponents on the previous Saturday against Norton and Stockton Ancients and the team travelled up to the North East on the Friday night, helped by some generous donations from several supporters. This overnight stay was the first for 1874 and took much time and effort to plan.

Alas, the match was postponed on Saturday morning and subsequently rescheduled for Wednesday evening.

Unfortunately, this week of all weeks, coincided with several players having greater difficulty than normal with taking time off work, with some either working or attending courses in the south of the country.

Despite the best efforts of all concerned, the club was unable to raise a team of eleven players to fulfil the rearranged fixture and had to take the regrettable decision to forfeit the tie.It has been a chastening experience for all concerned.

The Board will review all the arrangements made for this game, determine what mistakes - if any - were made and try to ensure that this situation never arises again.
