Whitchurch Alport

Surprising that the County FA weren't supportive of the application; you'd think they would want another of their member clubs to progress. Shame too that they couldn't have communicated this beforehand and saved Whitchurch the time and the money they have spent in their application?

Frustrating for that team I am sure especially when you think that we didn't start in a county league "recognised at an appropriate level" why can't a team jump a few leagues at this level if they can prove financial stability and ground grading?

The NWCFL could/should make an appeal on their behalf. After all the league has 3 vacancies and it would be beneficial to all its clubs to be playing in 2 divisions of 22.

Not so sure an appeal would cut much ice. As suggested elsewhere, they need to vote with their feet and affiliate with the Cheshire FA

They played in the Cheshire league for many years but quit Saturday football a couple of seasons ago due to funding issues I think. They have been running a Sunday team in the Shropshire league since. It does say on the NWCFL site that Whitchurch are considering an appeal. Good luck to them.

An excellent summary from NWCL on their website.

The FA are just unbelievable sometimes. Talk about helping Grass Roots Football!!

Is anyone else reading their name as Whitchurch Airport?

Dave James - Please note Whitchurch Alport quit the Cheshire League a couple of years ago, just after they had new floodlights installed, and joined the Mercian League, but this is not a Sunday league, but still Saturday football. It's a shame they havn't been supported. It's a lovely ground and club, with a good youth team structure and they are worthy of a place in the NWCFL. I hope they get the support they'll need to challenge the FA ruling.

Dave B, points noted. I knew there was an element of truth in there somewhere ;) Pity we can't fit in another pre-season friendly to show our support for them :)

Sadly the Shropshire County FA have a history of not supporting their affiliated clubs if they wish to play away from Shropshire. A couple of years ago the SFA tried to force Newcastle FC who play in the Mid Wales League (South) to join a league affiliated to Shropshire. The village of Newcastle is about a mile from the Welsh border and miles away from any club playing in Saturday football in England, they also tried a similar thing with Morda FC in Oswestry. Oddly they haven't tried the same trick with TNS!
